News from Unscheduled Care. Saturday, 19 July 2008. Sorry I've not posted for a while. If you were a regular visitor, you've probably enjoyed the rest. I started a new job two months ago, I'm now working in a GP practice as a nurse practitioner again, and learning the ropes as best I can. Hence the gap in posting. News from Unscheduled Care. Friday, 30 January 2009. I read a worrying story. Recently. A child who was symptomatic of meningitis appears to have been refused admission to a paediatric unit because she was seen by a Nurse Practitioner and not a GP. More worryingly when she was seen by a GP, he appears to have missed the symptoms and she did not receive treatment until the following day. I do find the premise that only doctor's can diagnose illness a little dated, and in this case, a little flawed.
