Thursday, 31 December 2009. PARKING TICKET FOR ON-CALL GP. A GP faces a £75 penalty for illegal parking during an emergency call – even though his car was displaying an official permit. Ben Claybrook, 34, got a £25 ticket visiting a patient with breathing difficulties. Parking officials in Scarborough, North Yorks, said the permit did not cover the car park where he left his vehicle. After two failed appeals, the penalty has risen to £75. The GP is now appealing to a tribunal. WHEN WILL THIS MADNESS END?

The Care Quality Commission Sucks. A STAGGERING 3,145 patients died needlessly in a year at 26 NHS hospital trusts, it was revealed yesterday. All the trusts but one had been rated by an official Government watchdog the CQC (Care Quality Commission), as "fair", "good" or even "excellent". Inspectors swooped unannounced on the wards of Basildon University Hospital after seeing its shock figure for 2007/2008. Their discovery of filthy, blood-stained and soiled beds and equipment provoked outrage.
