http://www.nickblogsscience.blogspot.com/2008/04/national-science-foundation-needs-to.html

Monday, April 7, 2008. National Science Foundation needs to Bulks Up. Long Beach (April 7, 2008)- Experts recently announced that The National Science Foundation should be receiving a 10% increase in budget per year for the next ten years. This is what they believe is necessary to allow the NSF to offer grants large enough to spark major research advances. The NSF is the only federal agency which provides grants to all areas of science education, from kindergarten through university levels. About me....

Nick's Science Blog: BeachBoard

http://www.nickblogsscience.blogspot.com/2008/04/beachboard.html

Monday, April 7, 2008. Long Beach (April 7, 2008)- BeachBoard, the CSULB instructor-student networking service was down on the morning of Friday, March 28 and all day Saturday, March 29, in an effort to fix mounting problems with the aging software. The reboot failed. Rumor is that BlackBoard, the company that leases CSULB BeachBoard, is going to replaced in the next two years. Posted by Nick Wilson. April 23, 2008 at 9:32 AM. I've seen it and it is gloriously working. May 7, 2008 at 9:20 AM.

Nick's Science Blog: March 2008

http://www.nickblogsscience.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 14, 2008. Nick's Take (on cooling). CSULB (March 14-2008)-I knew it! Al Gore was exagerating and blaming the wrong source for global warming. Whether or not this will encourage students to take an interest in meteorology and astronomy, I don't know, but someone needs to figure this stuff out. I'm not sure if this cooling trend will continue, or if 2007 was just a fluke. Http:/ www.dailytech.com/Temperature Monitors Report Worldwide Global Cooling/article10866.htm. Posted by Nick Wilson.

Recently reported that on a global average women are paid 16% less than men. In the U.S., it's 22%. Read the article here. Why the big difference? It amazes me how women- this massive, obviously necessary group in human society- have remained so oppressed and so discriminated against for so long. Moreso than any other male minority.

Diversity Matters. This blog chronicles the current diversity affairs in and around Long Beach. Who's affected and how. Monday, May 12, 2008. My views: What controversy? The cultural resource centers on campus are holding supplemental graduation ceremonies for each of its divisions. I'm Nick, and I study sociology.

I'm a PhD candidate in the Sociology. Department at Duke University. I study the effect of social factors — like organizations, socio-economic resources, and social roles — on individual choices. Right now, I'm working on several projects about treatment decisions made by patients with cancer. In the past, I've studied the career aspirations of students at elite universities. While you're here, you can read a few of my papers. Or read my (long-neglected) personal blog. Feel free to say hi.
