Purveyors of the Pointless. Every Alphabet Has Its Consequences : In Conversation With Adam Benjamin (Part II). The club is packed shoulder to shoulder. The band is Kneebody. And their unique musical vocabulary and sonic ingenuity makes them one of the most exciting ensembles working in improvised music today. We spoke to Adam Benjamin. About his role in the band, and about the development of their personal language of musical cues. Anyone can play a cue at anytime. The only restriction is that Nate ...

Purveyors of the Pointless. By now, I’m sure most of you have heard General Larry Platt’s American Idol smash hit, “Pants on the Ground.”. Which reminds me of a story…. Vikram and I play in a New Orleans-style brass band called Critical Brass, and our grand marshall is a gentleman named Alvin Harrison. Photo Credit: Schwee Miguel. 8221; we asked. 8220;Well, because it’s disrespectful to women! No one wants to see your drawers…”. We nodded, and there was a long pause. 8220;and you gotta. The K-Pop/Kanye/Kay-Gee Connection | Twenty Dollars
https://twentydollars.wordpress.com/2010/01/24/the-k-popkanyekay-gee-connection
Purveyors of the Pointless. I did a little musical detective work this morning. Https:/ twentydollars.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/02-peppertones-superfantastic.mp3. It started when my brother posted this Korean confection, called “Superfantastic,” on his Tumblr. It’s a song by K-Pop duo the Peppertones, and it’s pretty bonkers. 8220;Superfantastic” sounded strangely familiar to me, until I realized that the chorus was awfully similar to “Celebration” from Kanye West’s. Could Kanye be listening to K-Pop?

Purveyors of the Pointless. While Vikram has been descending into madness, I’ve just been so busy with actual paid work that blogging fell by the wayside. Fortunately, that’s all over now. So back to blogging! We’ve got a few things on the burner, so expect a series of shorter and more frequent posts. We hope you’ll all check back early and often. In the meantime, enjoy the following diversion:. A personal favorite, from 1892, is this one, belonging to Walcker Orgelbau, a German pipe organ company. FiveT...

Purveyors of the Pointless. We are looking at the same thing from two sides. 8220;Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi” was released Oct. 1, 2010. Louis recently released his second solo album, “Album 2”. Check them out. I wonder out loud how long we’ve been at it. She shrugs. My question suddenly seems silly to me. If that seems too dramatic, I wonder: have you ever heard anything like this? No definitive conclusion is reached, but the matter seems terribly important, to hear Louis and Genevieve talk about i...

Purveyors of the Pointless. Kate McGarrigle passed away yesterday. After a battle with cancer. She was 63. She left a wonderful body of music, as well as some remarkably talented children. Enjoy a beautiful performance featuring Kate and her son Rufus Wainwright, from an episode Elvis Costello’s “Spectacle.”. On January 20, 2010 at 2:41 am Leave a Comment. To TrackBack this entry is:. Purveyors of the Pointless. Our names are Vikram and Matt. We play music, against our better judgement. Though mindful of Art Blakey’s admonition that talking about music is like dancing about architecture, we nonetheless find ourselves doing just that in diners and cafes throughout Los Angeles. Sometimes, people look over and smile. We’ve decided that starting a blog is easier than learning not to interrupt each other. The religious aside, we don’t trust people who don’t like bacon. Purveyors of the Pointless. Lila Rasa: Robby Marshall’s Dance of Aesthetics. Krishna and Radha dancing the Rasalila, Jaipur, 19th century. My housemate enters our living room to the sound of a furious drum solo. 8220;Amnesia” by Robby Marshall, from his album,. Robby Marshall – saxophone, fx, samples; Andrew McKay – guitars; Danny McKay – bass; Zach Harmon – drums; Romain Collin – Rhodes. What are you listening to? I consider telling the truth.
