Talking Piffle - The Lord Peter Wimsey Reread. Gaudy Night, Chapters 5-6. Mar 10th, 2011 at 11:47 PM. My apologies for the lateness of this, but both of my copies went missing for a while. By the way, Gaudy Night. Is currently not available pretty much any place I looked. Possibly this means the publisher is preparing a new edition (and, hopefully, an electronic one as well). Padgett is summoned and ensures all is in readiness for the ceremony, even if everything is still a bit damp. Harriet stands g...

Our story begins with our intrepid heroine, who clearly feels she hasn’t had enough to angst about the last few years so has decided to attend her. College’s Gaudy. It turns out she was BFFs with one of the popular kids. Anyway, our intrepid heroine puts on a brave face, reveling in not. Harriet and Phoebe bond over...

Talking Piffle - The Lord Peter Wimsey Reread. Mar 27th, 2011. Firstly, my sincere apologies for the lateness of this post (it's always the mods, isn't it) But I hope you enjoy it anyway. These are two of my favourite chapters! In which several things happen which have nothing to do with Saint George. Sadly. Purple nail polish is all I'm going to say. Also, Gerry's debts are. Even by our modern standards. I'd be interested to know how common that sort of thing was for its day. Codlin is the friend, not S...

We've read the chapters ourselves so we don't need every detail. Or wtf anything, in fact. What's a proctor or a dean? Want to ship squee?

Mind-boggling biological revelation! - adaese

Apr 16th, 2015 at 8:25 PM. Wellinghall (browsing idly through a book about heraldry): Apparently male gryphons don't have wings. I had absolutely no idea gryphons exhibited such extreme sexual dimorphism! The only other species I can think of that does that is the Vapourer Moth - we had one pupate attached to our front door a few years ago. So people out there who know more biology than me - can we infer more about the life cycle of the gryphon from this startling fact? 11 comments Leave a comment. I can...

Last time I was in Colchester I was a teenager, now I'm a mum of two and freelance journalist fresh from the streets of Hackney, trying to rediscover my roots. Or something. Tuesday, 27 September 2011. It's like having the South Bank in Colchester. Kind of. Well, we paid a visit to Firstsite. Colchester's new, much-delayed, way-over-budget. Last time I was in Colchester I was a teenager, now I'm a mum of two and freelance journalist fresh from the streets of Hackney, trying to rediscover my roots. Or something. Friday, 26 February 2010. Our "curry club", a fluctuating but lovely group of uni friends and others, has now racked up quite a good number of visits to various Indian restaurants in London. In celebration of one of our number's sadly brief visit to the UK from Argentina we went last night to The Cinnamon Kitchen. Which we used to go...
