November 1, 2012. September is always a month where I seem to get caught up in the back to school frenzy that's happening all around us. I have to remember that with homeschooling we don't have to change a thing. We can go on like it's still summer, and keep on enjoying our slow paced life where we can dig into our interests. Sophie catches a toad on one of our nature walks. They learn all aspects of horse partnership. Grooming, saddling, riding, etc. The sketch book has been put to the side more and mor...

ninth street east: Felt Creatures

http://www.ninthstreeteast.blogspot.com/2011/01/felt-creatures.html

January 18, 2011. My mother bought me a wonderful little book called Felties. By Nelly Pailloux. It is full of awesome tutorials on how to make 18 different cute little creatures. I instantly fell in love with them all and had to bring them to life by making them myself. Close up of Mushroom Girl. These little guys are only 3 inches tall and are full of amazing little stitched or beaded details. January 18, 2011 at 8:48 PM. I need to look for that book. January 19, 2011 at 10:46 AM. January 25, 2012. Today we meet with our home education facilitator at Simon's request. Simon has been working at his own pace through a Math U See. Curriculum. This is not something that is required of him, but I exposed it to him and he took off with it. The other day, he told me that he would like to have tests and have them marked by a teacher. Not me teacher but a "real teacher." No offence was taken. To learn about X, he will with great gusto, because he chose to, and it's of interest to him. B...

ninth street east: Country Life - Week Three

http://www.ninthstreeteast.blogspot.com/2012/07/country-life-week-three.html

July 31, 2012. Country Life - Week Three. Standing under this rainbow made me feel like I was at the top of the world. One evening, out the kitchen window, we spotted the start of this beautiful rainbow. We all ran out through the mowed maze (Yes! To the top of the hill. We stood there as the full rainbow developed. A double touchdown. We got to see both ends perfectly and felt like we were standing directly under it. It truly was awe inspiring! You can't see that in the city! Utility knives, class etchi...

June 30, 2012. Our first order of buisness was to explore Fisherman's Wharf. Grandma and Sophie walk hand in hand. Bungy-Trampoline Jolly Jumper thing. The kids loved this so much! Located right on the Wharf, see all the sailboats in the background. California Academy of Sciences. Was a full day event for us and we still didn't see it all. One of the largest Museums of Natural History in the world! We will definitely go back. It was so busy I couldn't even stop the car to take my own picture! After the c...

ninth street east: Pottery - Plant Pots and Bowls

http://www.ninthstreeteast.blogspot.com/2010/06/pottery-plant-pots-and-bowls.html

July 19, 2010. Pottery - Plant Pots and Bowls. My year as a working member of the potter's guild has come to an end. For various reasons, I have decided to not renew my working membership, but to go back to taking casual classes. Although I did not get in the amount of potting I wanted to, I did spend some time working on various plant pots;. Here's a selection of my bowls;. These are my rejects. Not happy with the glazes. These bowls are a few of my favourite. July 22, 2010 at 11:10 AM. Funny, the glaze...

Adventures in Homeschooling: January 2010

http://raechelleec.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

A Mom's Tales of the Good and Bad in her Homeschool year. Monday, January 18, 2010. January Homeschool Review (or how I kinda, sorta fell off the Unschool wagon). I realized then that I didn't have very many "tactile" things to show the nice lady at the BOE and prove what my boys had learned. And I panicked. Of worksheets in language arts and math during those 11 days. I felt sheepish because I wasn't purely unschooling anymore, and because I felt as if I was trying to fool the BOE. What a Crazy Month.

Adventures in Homeschooling: We've Hit the Wall

http://raechelleec.blogspot.com/2011/04/weve-hit-wall.html

A Mom's Tales of the Good and Bad in her Homeschool year. Saturday, April 2, 2011. We've Hit the Wall. Our school year using Oak Meadow has been great. We've stayed on track through remodeling and moving, the kids like the curriculum, and they have learned things that I would not have thought to teach them. They were doing great, and there was no whining when I called "time for homeschool.". By Wednesday I knew it- they had hit a wall. So as we progressed through the stuff I had planned for Thursday and ...

In desperate need of entertainment: August 2010

http://kimjohnstone.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

In desperate need of entertainment. The cooler fall weather allowed to me having a tea party with my kids today. No, not because it's too hot to drink tea in the summer or because we're too busy at the playground to be bothered with such indoorsy silliness. It's way less direct than that. Olivia usually naps twice a day. These naps usually look something like this:. Please note the bad wrapping job. See what you learn in a year of wrapping? Let's get some water boiling! Rather than "I really wish I could...

Three for me, three for the kid. Bringing Out the Dead →. August 18, 2014 · 8:59 pm. Well, hasn’t time flown by! Is stuck on a high profile divorce case because the wronged wife likes her spunk. Of course, she isn’t cut out for the job at all, but then…of course she is! Box Boat. Boom. Bust. Six more down →. June 29, 2014 · 10:58 am. Three for me, three for the kid. I’m 52% through my 2014 book challenge, and apparently two books ahead of schedule with 27 out of 52 books read. Not bad, but there are no room for dry duds to pop up and slow me down. I’ve read three books since my last post: one good, one meh and one great. The good was Plan B. The first book of his I read) is going to be a movie. Soon with Tina Fey and Jason Bateman, so there’s that. Clocking in at around...
