Wild up North: August 2015

http://wildupnorth.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Wren production has been noticeably high this year, and it's not slowing down. This nest has been brought into operation despite having been built back in March. Best till last perhaps? Tucked away in the gable end of our entrance. Links to this post. Wild up North: The Patch

http://wildupnorth.blogspot.com/p/my-patch.html

A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. The patch covers Whitley Bay in North Tyneside in the UK. It has a good mix of habitats; coastal, urban, agricultural and woodland sites. Whitley Bay and Beach. The waggonway is a disused railway; the old Hartley to Tynemouth branch known as the Avenue Branch railway line that is now used as a cycleway and footpath. St Mary's Island and Wetland. Originally declared as St Mary's Island and Curry's Point Local Nature Reserve in 1992, but more commonly...

Wild up North: July 2014

http://wildupnorth.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. Thursday, 31 July 2014. My wife Gail reckons I spend too much time 'tittivating the garden'. She's probably right (she normally is) but the local wildlife seems pleased. The colony of Tree Sparrows in my garden, which was just one pair in a hole in the house wall two years ago, is now, with the addition of a few nest boxes, seven pairs producing at least sixty young! Taking a break from raising a third brood! Yarrow Plume moth, likes the Yarrow :).

Northeast Cetaceans: July 2012

http://northeastcetaceans.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Whales, dolphins, porpoises (and a few seabirds.) in the North Sea. Wednesday, 18 July 2012. July is always a good month to see. In north east England, and this year is no exception. The first reports came in the last few days of June, and during the last week they've been seen at Newbiggin, Druridge Bay, Blyth, Tynemouth, Lizard Point and Sunderland. At least ten individual animals were photographed during a transect survey on the. Labels: northeast cetacean project. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wild up North: The Wildlife Garden

http://wildupnorth.blogspot.com/2014/08/the-wildlife-garden.html

A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. Sunday, 17 August 2014. I find it quite astonishing what will come and live in a garden that is focused on being wildlife friendly. Here's a few of the residents in my garden seen yesterday. Hoverfly - Ceilosiini sp. Tree Sparrow - another 3rd clutcher! Lesser Yellow Underwing Moths. Solitary Wasp - Ectemnius sp. Wild up North: Unbridled Terns

http://wildupnorth.blogspot.com/2014/06/unbridled-terns.html

A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. Tuesday, 24 June 2014. A trip to the Farne Islands is great with or without rarities, and the fact that a Bridled Tern was reported on Inner Farne was coincidental to our trip. Just as well as it had 'gone fishing' when we were there. Still, plenty of fine feathered friends to provide one of natures great shows. And boat loads of people. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wild up North: Black-winged Pratincole - 2nd Northumberland Record

http://wildupnorth.blogspot.com/2015/05/black-winged-pratincole-2nd.html

A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. Sunday, 31 May 2015. Black-winged Pratincole - 2nd Northumberland Record. Managed a quick twitch to Bothal Pond this morning. The Black-winged Pratincole was showing well on the western shore, and came as close as it was ever likely too, allowing some record shots on a dull rainy morning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Northeast Cetaceans

Whales, dolphins, porpoises (and a few seabirds.) in the North Sea. Tuesday, 17 June 2014. After a number of near misses, I finally caught up with the Bottlenose Dolphins. On Thursday 5th June, and tracked their movement down the coast from Newbiggin to St Mary's Island. I lost them at that point, as they headed across Whitley Bay. They seem to have moved quickly south, and were reported from Marsden Rock.unfortunately as a pod of Minke Whales. Subsequently 'corrected' to a pod of Pilot Whales. In North ...
