NSW Rail Rambler: May 2015

http://nswrailrambler.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

A collection of photographs and stories from five decades of train chasing. Saturday, May 23, 2015. North Coasters - 1990 style. More playing with the Senior Train Hunter's videos has secured the following four videos from September 1990, at a lovely little passing loop called Kerewong. These videos look like they were shot over a couple of days, as 44209 makes two appearances. So lets start with 44209 on the North Coast Daylight Express. Time to get back to the freighters! Saturday, May 2, 2015. In 1993...

NSW Rail Rambler: Broady loco

http://nswrailrambler.blogspot.com/2015/06/broady-loco.html

A collection of photographs and stories from five decades of train chasing. Friday, June 12, 2015. My trips to Broadmeadow loco depot were few, being a Wollongong boy. However we did drop by a few times in the 1980s. Sadly I never recorded the dates of those visits, except that I do remember that they coincided with trips to the Newcastle model railway show at the basketball stadium nearby. That sure narrows it down! I think this one and the next two photos were from 1987ish. Will finish up with a few cl...

NSW Rail Rambler: March 2015

http://nswrailrambler.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

A collection of photographs and stories from five decades of train chasing. Sunday, March 29, 2015. A few from the coast. Time for a few photos taken up the north coast on one of the oldies' Alco chasing holidays - or at least I suspect that is why Nambucca Heads was on my parents' #1 holiday destination until the Alcos were withdrawn. I'll start with a little Alco leading a big one. Next up, 4495 is leading an Alco haze. Would love to have been there to listen to that train rumble through. A few from th...

NSW Rail Rambler: Candy DEBs

http://nswrailrambler.blogspot.com/2015/06/candy-debs.html

A collection of photographs and stories from five decades of train chasing. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. I thought I should round out my photographic recollections of DEB sets with a series of shots taken in the late 1980s and early 1990s while they wore the 'candy stripe' livery in their last days of regular service. Even going to through a couple of video clips in. Let's start with the coldest DEB set I ever traveled in - at Cooma on 14 June 1988. And a foggy Maldon on 20 November 1993. Time to finish with ...

NSW Rail Rambler: Getting out of Mexico

http://nswrailrambler.blogspot.com/2015/08/getting-out-of-mexico.html

A collection of photographs and stories from five decades of train chasing. Friday, August 7, 2015. Getting out of Mexico. A couple of weeks ago I posted a blog about the Melbourne Express, otherwise known as the MEX. The counterpart service was called the Sydney Express, but it was rarely described in the shortened form. When the Express started it was a much larger train than its 1990s version. Here it is stretched out through Wilton in 1986 with double 81s up front. And now to where it finished, the b...

NSW Rail Rambler

A collection of photographs and stories from five decades of train chasing. Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Sidings. I have known a few. I am just returned from three weeks in the southern USA, largely not. Train watching (in fact, I had a remarkable ability to only maintenance work being undertaken) and the rear end of trains disappearing into the distance. This brought with it a fair smattering of what I call conglomerate trains – that is, not a uniform or unit loading. Apart from colliery and quarry sidings...
