Invisible Education: February 2012
http://invisibleeducation.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Monday, February 20, 2012. I went out to dinner with a dozen women the other night. Good friends, all dykes. For a range of reasons we ended up in a pretty suburban restaurant. It’s well known by locals and the food is pretty good. We were seated at a big table up the back and had pretty loud conversations for a couple of hours. The table next to us knows up better than they wanted to. But it felt ok.

Invisible Education: July 2014
http://invisibleeducation.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Wednesday, July 2, 2014. And really, I'm not trying to pass. I'm trying to straddle a line that is still so unclear. I'm ok with this body, I'm not ok with what it means to others. And I hold that tension some days better than others. Tuesday, July 1, 2014. The more things change. It still surprises me how some days it cuts more than others. I've had a busy six months, and I've felt at home in quee...

Invisible Education: The more things change..
http://invisibleeducation.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-more-things-change.html
Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Tuesday, July 1, 2014. The more things change. After a nice work out at my gym, I went to get changed and go for a swim. Hearing the call of a small child hailing my entry with 'THERE'S A BOY IN HERE' didn't totally ruin my day, but it did make me change REALLY. FAST. There's more on that. Maybe I'll even write it. Invisible Education: March 2012
http://invisibleeducation.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Thursday, March 29, 2012. I wonder if I didn’t take into account how I looked at all, how the world would be towards me. If I wasn’t worried about having to fend off other people’s gender confusion, would that make things easier or harder? I wonder if it’s on me, that I worry and bring that with me? Meanwhile the kids are still as perplexed and perplexing as ever. Monday, March 5, 2012. 8220;Miss, who&...

Invisible Education: Young queers
http://invisibleeducation.blogspot.com/2013/03/young-queers.html
Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Wednesday, March 6, 2013. I hung out with some young queers over the weekend, and a few things stuck me. Firstly, I am defiantly not in my 20s. But more importantly I looked at the way they labelled gender. Not necessarily how they performed it, but how they labelled it. They adopted a range of pronouns, some transitioned medically, some not. They chose their pronouns and thier names. For instance, I s...

Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Monday, January 23, 2012. Friday, January 13, 2012. After my last post and comment, I got to thinking about working in schools with other queer staff, and I remembered something that happened about five years ago. In this transactional/ gossipy exchange about now mutual friends (the cast) I noticed something strange. The whole time, other people ended up feeling uncomfortable when they were near them.

Invisible Education: No To Homophobia
http://invisibleeducation.blogspot.com/2012/08/no-to-homophobia.html
Working with teenagers is one thing. Confusing them is quite another. My adventures in not blending in. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. I also like that it's not trying to say lesbians and gay men blend in and you might not know someone is gay. The dykes in the ad look like dykes and they're treated badly because of it. I, of course, love that they have a woman being singled out for bring butch. It's actually validating to see it on TV, even though it's a 'negative' ad. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
