Blogged thoughts of a palaeoillustrator. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. National Geographic's Antidote To Terminal Monster Saturation. The palaeontology community's members are all in therapy, thanks to Jurassic World. S insistence on filling a(n ENORMOUS) fictional theme park with some of the worst reconstructions of Mesozoic reptiles known to man. The TetZoo. The Love In The Time Of Chasmosaurs. Blog clearly comprises a masochistic crew, who offered up not one. Would we get feathered 'raptors'? Skeleton duri...

Blogged thoughts of a palaeoillustrator. Friday, 1 May 2015. The Fossil Record Throws A Curveball: Yi qi. Those crazy, crazy theropods. If there's one thing palaeontology has showed us about dinosaurs, it's that you shouldn't get used to their popular reconstructions because, sooner or later, something will turn up that'll really screw with your mind. And it's not like these events are necessarily rare; Deinocheirus. Got make-overs in the last couple of years, and they're both pretty high-profile. Where ...

Blogged thoughts of a palaeoillustrator. Thursday, 22 January 2015. WIN STUFF At Pteroformer - BAM Greetings Cards. It's January and you lot in the Northern Hemisphere are all feeling low and depleted. So I've been to the bank, rearranged funds and borrowed some cash to bring you this blog's first ever competition. Now, the car I could afford on this blog's budget wasn't really worth towing home to photograph, so I've decided on something a little less corroded and a lot less expensive. Email your answer...

World in a Box. Museums Natural History Generalised Nerdery. It’s like 10,000 spoons…. January 29, 2013. March 31, 2013. 8230;OK, 10,000 might be a bit of an exaggeration, but we do have a LOT of spoons in our collection! Spoons. Lots of spoons, from all over the world (but with a bias towards Africa, which must reflect the interests of some of our past collectors/curators. Or perhaps spoons are more heavily used in Africa than elsewhere? They are both different as well – one has his legs bent unde...

Blogged thoughts of a palaeoillustrator. Monday, 5 January 2015. New Year Blues Fix: Skulls, Papercraft and Aquilops. Those wonderful chaps at Sauropod Vertebra Picture Of The Week. Have made available a papercraft skull pattern for Aquilops. Partially trimmed skull pattern. (© Matt Wedel). I used regular PVA as I didn't want any visible adhesives (i.e., tape) and it's pretty strong and easy to handle. All-in-all, it took about 90 minutes to complete. Two files are available at SV-POW! And a larger one.

Pteroformer: Learn To Let Go: The Ever-Changing Look Of Dinosaurs
http://pteroformer.blogspot.com/2014/12/learn-to-let-go-ever-changing-look-of.html
Blogged thoughts of a palaeoillustrator. Tuesday, 16 December 2014. Learn To Let Go: The Ever-Changing Look Of Dinosaurs. Few people would argue that 2014 has been anything other than a cracking year for palaeontology. More specifically, dinosaur fans got to open their Christmas presents early, with the release of new reconstructions of Deinocheirus. Is a theropod and theropods are traditionally murderers. Enormous heads full of lots of teeth, which themselves are always compared to steak knives - we...

I can't recall when I first heard about 'quad-launching' as a serious suggestion for pterosaurs getting airborne, (I was under a rock, palaeontologically-speaking, between '06 and '12) though Mark Witton.
