Mother’s Day - Emily Kay Singer
http://www.emilykaysinger.com/blog/mothers-day
Classes, Presentations, and Panels. I know I said I was only going to post on Mondays and Wednesdays, but today's a special case. It's Mother's Day and I wanted to give a shout-out to my own mother. I talked a little bit about her in the first episode of Beyond the Trope, but she warrants a blog post, too. I'm hoping to return the favor by getting her into comics. Shh. Don't tell.). Basically, my mom is awesome and I love her so, so much. Happy Mother's Day, Mom. Thanks for everything you do. I love read...

Classes, Presentations, and Panels. I have a confession to make: I haven't written a word of fiction in a week. I got caught up in preparing for Beyond the Trope. S appearance at Denver Comic Con. Hand-sewing my Kid Loki. Costume, researching and planning for the panels we moderated- and then I came home with a head cold that's been making it hard to focus. None of that is an excuse, I know. As a writer, I need to get better at butt-in-chair, fingers-on-keyboard and getting stuff done. Emily K. Singer.

Why I Write Queer Characters - Emily Kay Singer
http://www.emilykaysinger.com/blog/february-09th-2015
Classes, Presentations, and Panels. Why I Write Queer Characters. A few weeks ago, I had a conversation with my mother about why I write queer characters. It’s been kind of bugging me over the last few days that I felt so caught off-guard by the question. Why do I write queer characters? The simple answer is that representation is important. I believe this very strongly, and I will argue it with anyone who says it isn’t. Representation for any minority group is important. My friend and Beyond the Trope.

Classes, Presentations, and Panels. A Toast to Writing. For those of you not in the Denver Metro area, it's been incredibly rainy the last few days- perfect weather for curling up with a cup of tea and writing. Today is also the last day of Camp NaNoWriMo. The point of doing a challenge like NaNoWriMo is just getting writing- telling the inner editor to take a long walk off a short pier and getting words on the page. And I'd like to think that's what I've managed to do so far this month. I suppose I coul...

Excuses - Emily Kay Singer
http://www.emilykaysinger.com/blog/excuses
Classes, Presentations, and Panels. I've been trying to post here for over a month now, but life and my own insecurities have held me back. Seriously, I'm so afraid of having nothing to say and writing a boring post that I don't write one at all. Which, when it comes down to it, is dumb. I'm sure I have a lot to say- I just need to dig it up from under all the crap my conscious mind likes to pile on it. I'm a writer, for goodness sake. I should have something to write about! I can relate to this so much&...

Classes, Presentations, and Panels. I’m so excited to finally officially announce this! Next month, February 21st, I’m co-teaching a free workshop through Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers with my buddies Charlie. And Cath. This is my first time teaching a writing workshop and I’m having a bit of impostor syndrome about it, but it’s going to be a great time. So, what are we teaching? How sexuality might influence your character and how they interact with the world around them. Rsquo; re writing.

Happy Sobbing - Emily Kay Singer

Classes, Presentations, and Panels. My apologies for skipping out last week. Things happened.). Earlier this year, I submitted a short story to the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. 2014 anthology. It a fun little story that ties in with one of my current novels-in-progress, but I honestly didn't expect it to get chosen for publication. I am so incredibly honored to be part of this project. There's still editing and polishing to do, but I'm looking forward to the process. Persistence often wins out. So...
