Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. DAY 41: TEHACHAPI BLISS AND IM NOT KIDDING. Fantastic views in the night from my sleeping bag AND I slept relatively well! Ben, not waking up in the am. The 11 miles down to Tehachapi were a breeze, as my eagerness to get to our hotel room got stronger with each step. There was Trail Magic! Just a few miles to go. Everyone enjoying the magic. Burn zones and wind mills for miles. We reached Willow-Springs Road! We finally muste...

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. UPDATE: POSTS TO COME SOON. I am so sorry for the lack of posts! It has been unbelievably difficult to find computers and wi-if out here, not to mention the time it takes to upload large photos. Do not give up on me! I am still taking notes, taking photos, and planning on meticulously documenting each and every day. And promise to do so very soon! Please forgive me and STAY TUNED! But in the mean time, here is what's new:.

IN THESE WOODS: DAY 167: ALPINE LAKES VIEWS

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. DAY 167: ALPINE LAKES VIEWS. The morning began when I poked my head out of the tent and witnessed a large deer passing Smiles and Dr. Slosh's tent. Next: two fawns. Morning hiking is my favorite hiking. The views. I can't. Always pleased to come around the corner and see a break happening. I will always accept a break. Morning rest stop #1. Smiles cut herself on this frayed wire. Shoe dry-out in progress. This was a hard climb.

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. DAY 157: NON STOP RAIN. This is what it looked like. Are we really going to hike today? Are we really going out in this? These are the questions. Then I felt guilty for feeling so ready to be done, and all because of this weather! So this is what I dwelled on those last few hours in the hotel room. Skykomish really was a "Great Northern Town". We thought it'd be a hard hitch out to Stevens Pass, but we were surprised to find i...

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. THE END : FINALLY. For those of you PCT Journalist'ers: This is the entry of a 2013 hiker. The year the snow came record-breakingly early. I'm guilty - it's taken me 9 full months to write about the end of our trip. Like homework, this last post has lingered over me like an painfully overdue thesis paper. So how does it end? Day 162 - 165: No more miles. Rainy view from the porch. We had taken note of our "last hitch hike" whe...

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. We didn't know it yet, but this would be the last 25 miles we hike on the PCT this year. Turned around due to snow". Too much snow up there". I told myself I'd go home when it started snowing". Goku, a fellow hiker we'd hiked with off and on in the beginning of the trail, went as far as to pull out his digital camera and show us what awaited us at the top. Thick snow, and zero visibility. We were anxious to get get there. ...

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. The day has come for some decision making. The issue at the table? Whether or not to skip ahead to Stevens Pass (near Skykomish, WA) 76 PCT miles north of where we were, in order to avoid and beat the approaching weather systems to ensure we make it to the Canadian border. We aren't opposed to skipping ahead (we vow to come back next summer and complete the missing segment) but definitely do not want to. While hitching, we saw...

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. DAY 158: SNOW AND MUD. September 24th, 2013. It's been too long since I last posted, and I'm sorry I've gone missing and left the blog hanging at the very end of the journey. It isn't over yet! We are just getting started, in terms of the snow, misery, and climax of the story. Please - stay with me, as there are a few more posts to come in final conclusion of this journey. Summary of hiking in Washington too close to October:.

Blog documenting a 2013 PCT Thru-hike and subsequent Tiny House Build in 2014. DAY 90: TRUCKEE IS NICE. So many 0 days. Our stay in the Truckee Donner Lodge was full of rest and relaxation. We all slept in, ate a hearty continental breakfast, and extended our stay a few hours, and wound up checking out at 1:00pm. Truckee is a great little town. Probably one of my favorite towns so far, actually. It has real culture, not just small town charm. Chik Chak's attempt at eating a melted Reeses. Hiker "trash" a...
