Spiller and Spaceworm hike the Pacific Crest Trail. July 18, 2015. Tahoe to Sierra City. Aloha lake comimg out of South Lake Tahoe. Lake of clouds, view from ski hut (see next image). The Sierra Club built these ski huts for bad weather shelter. Weather wasn’t aweful, but we stayed here to get out of some cold mist on an exposed ridge. (and avoid setting up our tent). Spiller and Spaceworm hike the Pacific Crest Trail. July 7, 2015. Devil’s Post Pile National Monument. A Basalt formation that, when cooled, contracted into hexagonal shaped columns. Hexagons are one of natures most efficient, space saving shapes (think bee hives, salt flats, soap bubbles, and turtle shells.). A nice water source heading up the last major pass (Donahue Pass). Coming out of the High Sierras. with crystal clear blue skies, dry air, and relatively docile bugs, we found ourselves slapped in the senses with daily thunderstorms, humidity, and nasty mosquitoes. But bug nets and rain coats prevail (well sort of, sometimes). Heading up onto a nice long ridge. Did we mention thunderstorms? Nice little camping spot.
