A Little Poem For The Season | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2014/12/10/a-little-poem-for-the-season
The view from here. Dec 10, 2014 -. A Little Poem For The Season. 8216;Twas the start of The Season, and all through the place,. There were things to be done and a smile on each face……sort of. The stockings were hung, even one for the dog. The tree was set up, there were cookies and nog. The children were kind; there was nary a fight. But…side note right here…LEDs are too bright! Placing the tree caused no (audible) swears, and once it was on, we forgot all our cares. December 12, 2014 at 12:53 pm.

It’s an Imperfect Life | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2014/12/25/its-an-imperfect-life
The view from here. Dec 25, 2014 -. It’s an Imperfect Life. I’ll have to add that to the list to figure out later), I happened to glance up at the store window in front of me. “We Wish You the Perfect Christmas,” it said. The Perfect Christmas. Well. I happen to know that this Perfect Christmas animal is extinct. I have had Emotional Christmases in other countries where the gifts had to be carefully weighed and packed in suitcases in order to be brought to us, and the meal was delicious but not our famil...

Just Shut Up, Or Tales of A Not So Happy Camper | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2015/04/30/just-shut-up-or-tales-of-a-not-so-happy-camper
The view from here. Apr 30, 2015 -. Just Shut Up, Or Tales of A Not So Happy Camper. I loved everything about my own camp experiences…the singing, the bonfires, the cabins where everyone rushed to get the top bunk, the friends you tearfully bid farewell to and weepily promised to write weekly and how that promise, in reality, lasted all of 5.2 weeks. And now I (Hello! After receiving such a huge award! I learned it really, really well, and if there were an award for learning it, I should have won THAT on...

That Time I Gave Up Running Water for Lent | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2015/03/12/that-time-i-gave-up-running-water-for-lent
The view from here. Mar 12, 2015 -. That Time I Gave Up Running Water for Lent. It wasn’t until the past few years that I baby-stepped into what Lent was, how it was a moment, a pause, a reflection, a stop and a breath and a reminder of our own mortality before the tiptoe began into the season of hope and spring and new life. There were many moments that nerves were stretched as thin as guitar strings ready to pop, while the three kiddos all piled onto air mattresses in one room, and while the mom contin...

Enough | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2015/08/04/543
The view from here. Aug 4, 2015 -. It was late on a Saturday night. We were playing one of those card games where one person asks a question and everyone is required to give his gut answer: “What’s the biggest difference between you and your sibling? 8220;What was the best meal you’ve ever eaten? 8220;What’s the most scared you’ve ever been? The irony is (and isn’t there always irony? The airport was its usual madness of barefoot, stressed-out travelers, exhausted children, and order-barking officials...

The Well-Fed Soul | Front Porch Living

The view from here. Feb 3, 2015 -. Sooo you know when you fel like you’ve really, really learned something? Like you’ve got this thing? The word “overwhelmed” is overrused. At least by me. The good thing about getting older (and yay for there being a good thing! Is there anything we can do to help? 8221; or 2. Exercising their superpowers of Perfectly-Timed Invisibility. Don’t Be a Pretty Girl | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2015/04/01/dont-be-a-pretty-girl
The view from here. Apr 1, 2015 -. Don’t Be a Pretty Girl. I’m not sure the exact moment I realized I wasn’t one of the Pretty Girls. I do remember having my stage makeup done before the performance of a middle-school play and the makeup-applying mom assigned to me going on and on and on about how weird it was that my eyelashes were so straight! And just wouldn’t curl! My mouth wasn’t the right shape for lipstick and hey! It got me thinking about my what my reality was though, and what I want for my daug...

In The Bleak Midwinter | Front Porch Living
http://frontporchliving.info/2015/02/15/in-the-bleak-midwinter
The view from here. Feb 15, 2015 -. In The Bleak Midwinter. 8220;In the bleak midwinter. Frosty wind made moan,. Earth stood hard as iron,. Water like a stone. Snow had fallen, snow on snow,. In the bleak midwinter,. Long, long ago.”. I’m not sure when I first heard this song, but its words were stuck in my brain this morning; as stuck as the front door that wouldn’t budge, its handle seeming to protest my opening it to the cold world outside. The world was so hard. The world IS so hard. Instead of allow...
