Peer Monitor was written for fun by Daniel Clarke. Yes, it was needed in a home network where MS Internet Connection Sharing was used to share a single dial-up. We needed to see if the gateway computer was turned on, whether the connection was open, and who (if anyne) was left computing (so someone would not hang-up the modem if there was another user still possibly surfing). It was written in London and Dunstable, Great Britain. It is written in Visual Basic 6. It uses the following API calls:.

A red, orange, or green light is displayed next to the names of your chosen hosts immediatly indicates status:. Have an email sent to you when a (given) host come up or goes down. The tolerance before a warning email is sent is user-specifiable (for example, allow 3 failures before emailing you). A chosen or default sound plays for any hosts YOU CHOOSE to use sound when they are red:. A dedicated program, PMConfig, allows you to list your hosts and resolve to IPs and change all the settings.

PM starts, I can see it on the task bar, but I cannot see the program! PM remembers where you placed it (x,y coods) on the screen, and moves to this place at start up. It saves this information when it unloads at the end of using it. Sometimes this data is recorded in the registry with the values of x and y as -480000 pixels (way off the screen). 2 Run the "restore default screen position" file (found on the start menu). Known issues with PeerMonitor. PM claims success when you do not allow it to access the internet using ZoneAlarm 2.6. Zone Alarm asks you if you wish to allow PM to access the internet, and you choose "no". Then PM says that the pings were successful. ZA denys the Windows ICMP.dll access to the Internet, and in doing so returns "success" to PM. PM then displays "success". When asked if you wish PM to access the Internet, answer "yes". Or, use a better firewall - like WinRoute 4.1. This is NOT a bug:.
