In 2002 the government established the Pensions Commission to advise it on creating a sustainable pension system to provide security to future generations of pensioners. The Pensions Act 2007 introduced reforms of state pensions and state pension age. The Pension Act 2008 announced reforms of work based pension provision. As a result, starting in 2012, all employers will have to make arrangements for eligible employees to join a pension scheme that meets certain minimum requirements.
