05 Nov 2013: First two weeks in braces | Double Jaw Surgery
https://nicolasjawsurgery.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/05-nov-2013-first-two-weeks-in-braces
On the NHS. This is my story. These are not my teeth. 05 Nov 2013: First two weeks in braces. My first two weeks with braces have flown by! My teeth are definitely still adjusting and there have been a couple of things I hadn’t quite planned for but the movement in my bottom teeth has already really surprised me. I have started to relax a little bit about the appearance as well – they’re on and they’re staying for quite some time so we might as well all get used to them. Pain, is tender teeth! With all t...

Appointments | Double Jaw Surgery
https://nicolasjawsurgery.wordpress.com/appointments
On the NHS. This is my story. These are not my teeth. Should have had an appointment with my orthodontic consultant but after asking to rearrange it, I fell out of the system. With a wedding to plan (June 2012) however, rearranging it fell off my list of things to do. Appointment orthodontist just to check in and to get me back in the system. She explains the procedure in principle and we agree that I will meet with the surgical team to discuss a plan of action. Friday 15 February 2013. I asked for an ea...

https://nicolasjawsurgery.wordpress.com/2013/12/14/344
On the NHS. This is my story. These are not my teeth. 11 Dec 2013: First adjustment – all I want for Christmas is a ….rotation wedge! Ah, the photos on a braces and/or jaw surgery blog are always so attractive! My word these past two months have gone quickly – the week before getting my braces was excruciatingly slow but now look…it’s almost Christmas! The past few weeks have been really busy for us so I’m really sorry for radio silence – especially to Aidan (thank you, it’s brilliant! So I had my first ...

https://nicolasjawsurgery.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/weds-23-oct-2013-lets-get-cracking
On the NHS. This is my story. These are not my teeth. Update – 23 Oct 2013: Let’s get cracking…. They’re on, let’s do this! Full post later but metal bands, wires and ligatures make me a full set of braces up! Well, 7 appointments in 4 weeks (hospital x 3, dentist x 2, hygienist x 2) and I finally have my braces on. It still feels a bit surreal to think that my journey (don’t worry, I hate that word too! So I was called in pretty much straight away (but I was watching that! She began to take the spacer b...

TMJ Treatment | Double Jaw Surgery
https://nicolasjawsurgery.wordpress.com/tmj-treatment
On the NHS. This is my story. These are not my teeth. Aside from the orthodontic and orthognathic work I am hoping to have, in November 2011 I underwent an arthroscopy. Your TMJ is the temporomandibular joint which is the joint between your lower jaw and skull. The term TMJ disorder covers an array of issues surrounding your jaw joint. This is what the NHS website has to say about it:. Http:/ www.nhs.uk/conditions/temporomandibular-joint-disorder/Pages/Introduction.aspx. We arrived at the hospital at aro...

14 Oct 2013: Brackets and spacer bands anyone? | Double Jaw Surgery
https://nicolasjawsurgery.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/14-oct-2013-brackets-and-spacer-bands-anyone
On the NHS. This is my story. These are not my teeth. 14 Oct 2013: Brackets and spacer bands anyone? As you’ve probably guessed, I got some of my hardware fitted on Monday. Ugh – what a head(mouth)ache these things are! Why on earth, when all my friends who have ever had braces complained about ulcers, cuts, aches, wax, enormous pieces of metal in their mouth (…did I mention cuts? Did I not equate that with what I would experience when I got my own braces? First 3 days with brackets on. Because the brack...
