Walking the Huaca on two hundred words. Tuesday, August 14, 2007. I walked through Puno and caught my bus to Arequipa. The ride was quiet and uneventful. Into Arequipa at night, past the chicken shacks and car parts, empty-lot restaurants lit with florescent bulbs, the endless parade of brick-built walls and stained-tin roofs. Peru's second city. El Pavo Clásico: January 2007

http://www.peruandme.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Walking the Huaca on two hundred words. Wednesday, January 24, 2007. Bonus: At The Sore Thumb Dance. It all started with Andrew Pastor, that transplanted Angeleno. Suggesting we all go crosstown to some sort of concert; "one with dancing." I was suspicious, having avoided most gringo-y things, but without a better plan I trusted Andrew to lead us well. After a brief dinner, we headed to the outskirts of the city. The venue was an open-air field, like a fairground, dominated by an enormous dancefloor.

El Pavo Clásico: September 2006

http://www.peruandme.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html

Walking the Huaca on two hundred words. Monday, September 18, 2006. Expedition: Pt. Three - The Last Lost Love of the Laguna. I woke up in a start, as the deep recesses of my mind vibrated in alarm. There was a rustling outside the tent, a slight and subtle sound of leaf and leaf, and though Jeff and Alex couldn't hear it deep in their slumber, I knew something was wrong with the sound. Could be robbers - but at 14,000 feet? Cougars, panthers, or jaguars? Nothing seemed of much importance after that.

El Pavo Clásico: Ride the Reading Railroad

http://www.peruandme.blogspot.com/2007/07/ride-reading-railroad.html

Walking the Huaca on two hundred words. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Ride the Reading Railroad. I walked across the bridge in line wth the other tourists in the pre-dawn darkness, leaving behind the relative comfort of Argentina for the unknown and inconsistent world of Bolivia. Argentina s officials were courteous, smartly dressed even at dawn, and used just enough ink to stamp my passport - in a blank box no less - and they wished me a buen viaje. Well, four became around five. And five became seven. It&acu...

El Pavo Clásico: Brothers & Lakes

http://www.peruandme.blogspot.com/2007/08/brothers-lakes.html

Walking the Huaca on two hundred words. Tuesday, August 07, 2007. The hike out of Copacabana started out low and warm, hugging the lakeshore for a quarter mile past farms and sheep and fields, burned and charred. Lake Titicaca is at tremendous altitude and the sky was completely cloudless except for a few low puffy things far off on the other side of the water. Of course they were all wrong, but what can you do? Maybe we just walked especially slowly. Eventually we staggered into town, village really, an...

El Pavo Clásico: Udon on the Parana

http://www.peruandme.blogspot.com/2007/07/udon-on-parana.html

Walking the Huaca on two hundred words. Monday, July 09, 2007. Udon on the Parana. Back south again on a four hour bus to Posadas, which I knew wasn t going to be four hours when I saw the ticket taker bring three DVDs onboard. At least the volume was low and the road smooth as the dense jungle of the far northeast gave way to a rolling landscape of hills and farms of Misiones Province. Posted by Jeffrey @ 10:28 AM. Korean Chaos: Drive-by Gifting

http://koreanchaos.blogspot.com/2007/06/drive-by-gifting.html

I walked out of 3rd period ready to run to the airport. My students were so rude and disrespectful even on our last class together. It made me think "where have I gone wrong, what did I do? I'm writing this letter on my valuable book and I'll rend is and send you. (translation I have no clue). You'll read this in school, in airport, or in U.S.A. If you read this in school I'm shameful and I'm die. Oh I'm kidding. Some time ago you asked me that I have study only Jeju. Do you remember? ON THE BACK IT READS.

Korean Chaos: Final Lessons and Goodbyes

http://koreanchaos.blogspot.com/2007/06/final-lessons-and-goodbyes.html

Final Lessons and Goodbyes. What I chose to do instead is teach a lesson on diversity as some of my parting words of advice. After learning the proverb "don't judge a book by it's cover," my students play a game where they guess the personalities, jobs, and success of an individual based on one picture. This has proved one of my most interesting lessons thus far. Here are some of the comments I have received thus far:. He is not kind because he is dirty and ugly. He is poor and unsuccessful. Reflections ...

Korean Chaos: February 2007

Farwell Teachers Meetings: Senior Week Nostalgia. I cannot think of a better way to describe the teacher farewell parties in Korea than to compare it to that of senior week in college. Drunken antics, last chances for office romance, and a lot of dinners/organized activities that lead to debauchery. Sound familiar? This past week marks the transition time for many teachers, bidding farewell to a school they have worked in for 2-3 years. CDL-you look so beautiful. Your earrings are new I have never se...

Hectic holiday travel-A MYTH. Have a safe trip". This saying has always been mildly disturbing to hear before departing on a long journey on an airplane. I have absolutely no control over whether I have a safe trip or not-"have a safe trip" insinuates one may not have a safe trip and it is more frustrating when the power is in the hands of the pilot. Moreover have a safe trip-isn't it assumed? Hey have an unsafe trip" plain silliness. Your flight will arrive 5 minutes early? Ma'am we found your black bag!

Korean Chaos: January 2007

http://koreanchaos.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

So many wild tales to describe of travels south of the equator and S.E. Asia. But while I journey through Korea for my last two weeks of vacation, I must hold off on descriptive writing. Yoegwan tour 2007 has commenced and the first stop was the prince motel in Seoul and Chuncheon's Carib Motel that is shaped like a castle. Needless to say the castle stuck out from our first stay here. And we are now contemplating a themed yoegwan tour ie. monarch motels or medieval times. Yes, this question seems absurd...

What's more its not even in 한굴 (hangul-korea's alphabet). It simply perplexes me. Stranded on an Island off the Island we are Stranded On. One might be prone to ask exactly what family emergencies, a lifetime supply of jalapenos, fictitious legends, Baywatch banter, and islands have in common. All I can say is this, UDO ISLAND 2007-Alex Page's 23rd/24th birthday. I mean how many times can you say you have celebrated two birthdays simultaneously? EXACTLY I WOULDN'T. Korean Chaos: Chaotic Closings

http://koreanchaos.blogspot.com/2007/06/chaotic-closings.html

Recounting the amazing memories with my comrades and life long friends, it is hard to explain just what happened while we were here. Though I have tried to recount the amazing, frustrating, absurd, laughable, sad stressful and fulfilling times through my blog, I know that this will always be an experience only a few people truly understand. Am I going to make lasting friendships? Why am I moving across the [this time country not world]? How will distance affect the strong relationships I have built?

Korean Chaos: July 2007

http://koreanchaos.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Maybe I was a bit premature with the change of the blog name. I guess I am eagerly anticipating the big move westward. First, I suppose I should tackle the 600 pg course pack I need to complete by Monday. Cheers to going back to school. Being back is oddly normal but little things catch me off guard. I nearly had a heart attack when people were walking around with shoes on in the house. Menus in English are nice and I can't believe HOW MUCH TIME PARIS HILTON TAKES UP ON TELEVISION. Great job America.
