Net Neutrality Rules: Nondiscrimination: Not as Easy as It Seems at First Blush
http://netneutralityrules.blogspot.com/2009/09/nondiscrimination-not-as-easy-as-it.html
Academic Commentary on the Coming FCC Rulemaking on Net Neutrality. Monday, September 21, 2009. Nondiscrimination: Not as Easy as It Seems at First Blush. The highlight of Chairman Genachowski’s speech launching the FCC’s new network neutrality initiative is the proposal to add two new principles to the four initial principles announced in the FCC’s 2005 Internet Policy Statement. In addition, scholars and policymakers also recognize that charging different prices is not discriminatory when the products ...

Net Neutrality Rules: Surprisingly Big News
http://netneutralityrules.blogspot.com/2009/09/surprisingly-big-news.html
Academic Commentary on the Coming FCC Rulemaking on Net Neutrality. Monday, September 21, 2009. My reaction is less to JG's speech and more to the reaction to JG's speech. Its often said that law is a prediction of what judges will do. Similarly, regulation is a prediction of what the FCC or Congress would do. My sense has been, for a while, that the FCC or Congress would punish any serious NN violation. The rule-making announced today is a fortification of that sense. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Net Neutrality Rules: Examples of Discriminatory Protocols
http://netneutralityrules.blogspot.com/2009/09/examples-of-discriminatory-protocols.html
Academic Commentary on the Coming FCC Rulemaking on Net Neutrality. Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Examples of Discriminatory Protocols. One might regard these forms of discrmination as weak or indirect. Even more interesting are routing policies that explicitly discriminate on the basis of source. To quote the four examples used in a leading textbook on computer networking:. 183; Never put Iraq on a route starting at the Pentagon. 183; Only transit Albania if there is no alternative to the destination.

THE CONDUIT: February 2006
http://theinfoconduit.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
As we are birthed into this organized society we become conduits for the structures that make decisions on our behalves with the energy that we provide them. Remember two things when embracing freedom: ONLY SLAVES LOVE BEING POWERFUL AND "QUIT WORKING FOR THE TAXPAYER". Friday, February 03, 2006. Receiving in The Conduit. It might seem to the regular folks that information is like water. It follows simple rules. I mean Reagan and Thatcher spouted off about "trickle down" economics. Verizon, Comcast, Bell...

ShoutingLoudly: Times' (slow) tech news: Another example

Http:/ shoutingloudly.blogspot.com/atom.xml/. Helping to build a healthy information ecosystem. Monday, March 06, 2006. Times' (slow) tech news: Another example. Today, another good example supporting last night's thesis: the Times has respectable tech and tech law coverage, as long as you don't mind being a bit behind the curve and missing some of the nuance. Their stuff is uninspiring, and if you're reading it there for the first time, you'd better not need to know it, but it'll do for most people.

Net Neutrality Rules: Protocol Complexity and Nondiscrimination Standards
http://netneutralityrules.blogspot.com/2009/09/protocol-complexity-and.html
Academic Commentary on the Coming FCC Rulemaking on Net Neutrality. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Protocol Complexity and Nondiscrimination Standards. I take Christopher's point about developing protocol complexity. My question is how it relates to the administrability of nondiscrimination rules. The other hand, then, is the inevitable institutional problems. What sorts of process will the FCC employ to decide particular cases? The process in the Comcast. Some of the suggestions for FCC Reform. First Reac...
