Surviving a Primary PGCE: December 2011

http://pgceprimary.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Surviving a Primary PGCE. No lies, no exaggerations, just the experiences of a school-based PGCE. Tuesday, 20 December 2011. The bad feeling when you find lots more work to do . After a week long break from anything to do with my PGCE I have been struck down by the discovery of a whole host of reading I did not realise I had to do. I actually missed doing work so I thought I would make a quick head start on some of the work next term but little did I realise how hard this would be. Posted by Primary PGCE.

Surviving a Primary PGCE: Catching up with the work

http://pgceprimary.blogspot.com/2011/12/catching-up-with-work.html

Surviving a Primary PGCE. No lies, no exaggerations, just the experiences of a school-based PGCE. Thursday, 1 December 2011. Catching up with the work. After weeks of hanging on in there I feel like I am slowly beginning to make headway in the stacks of work we have to do. I have just handing in a draft of my assignment three and completed an observed lesson - two massive worries I have had all week. Now all I have to do is get through another observation tomorrow and it is relatively plain sailing.

Surviving a Primary PGCE: October 2011

http://pgceprimary.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Surviving a Primary PGCE. No lies, no exaggerations, just the experiences of a school-based PGCE. Monday, 31 October 2011. How is spelling taught in your school? I have just been to an excellent course on phonics and spelling but it has left me with the question of how is spelling taught in other schools? At my placement school they teach spelling in KS2 by giving children a set of 10 words a week with a test at the end of it to see how many they have learnt. Posted by Primary PGCE. It's a good job to be...

Surviving a Primary PGCE: Strike day as a student

http://pgceprimary.blogspot.com/2011/11/strike-day-as-student.html

Surviving a Primary PGCE. No lies, no exaggerations, just the experiences of a school-based PGCE. Wednesday, 30 November 2011. Strike day as a student. For those of you who don't know, PGCE students have no say in whether to strike or not as we are not employed members of staff and so for us it is a normal working day. Well I say normal, my reading day has had to be switched to today so I don't miss out on a day at school so for me it means the hard work continues. I just hope the stigma of the professio...

Surviving a Primary PGCE: A good start to Year 1

http://pgceprimary.blogspot.com/2011/11/good-start-to-year-1.html

Surviving a Primary PGCE. No lies, no exaggerations, just the experiences of a school-based PGCE. Tuesday, 29 November 2011. A good start to Year 1. Today was my first day in Year 1 and overall I would say it was a good start. I still need a lot more practice until I will be as confident with this age as I am with my Year 4s but I can see myself teaching this level - an improvement from a couple of months ago. Ranting Teacher: April 2009

http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Online ramblings since 2003. Monday, 13 April 2009. Teachers demand pay increase. I'd been waiting for some official news on this after I'd heard whispers earlier today. The BBC (amongst others) reports that the. National Union of Teachers is demanding a pay increase for teachers. Now you will have your own opinion on this, and I wouldn't have even commented on this EXCEPT that the report on the BBC site just made me feel a little bit angry. Okay, quite a lot. And it was this section in particular:.

Ranting Teacher: October 2009

http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Online ramblings since 2003. Wednesday, 14 October 2009. Canteen duty is something that can be dreaded for a number of reasons, but for me it is often the pathos of that twenty minutes. For surely there is nowhere else around the school where is it possible to observe the hard time that some children go through. The saddest type of child I see is the Little Loner. There have been so many times when I’ve wanted to match-make between lonely pupils who I think would enjoy each others’ company&#4...Sarah Ebn...

Ranting Teacher: December 2008

http://rantingteacheruk.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Online ramblings since 2003. Tuesday, 30 December 2008. That was the end of term. End of term scenario 1. End of term scenario 2:. Catch a terrible cold and cough pathetically at any given opportunity, therefore giving you a perfectly good excuse not to attend the social event of the millennium and get home in time for Friday night telly instead. What chance do they have? I suspect that this kind of thing isn't unusual. In the past I've had to report on a child who wrote about being given sleeping tablet...

PGCE: Only The Positives. A simple log of the highlights, funny moments and achievements [hopefully] from my PGCE year. :D Leave your mark. Saturday, 16 June 2012. Just a quick update. My final placement finished yesterday, so - for now - that means no more teaching, no more planning. Yay! My class teacher was really sweet. She has got me a great card, a cake, smellies, vodka and wine! Things are wrapping up now. Who'd have thought it? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Summer ...

PGCE: Only The Positives: Working One-To-One

http://pgceonlythepositives.blogspot.com/2012/06/working-one-to-one.html

PGCE: Only The Positives. A simple log of the highlights, funny moments and achievements [hopefully] from my PGCE year. :D Leave your mark. Tuesday, 19 June 2012. It was really nice, working on that level with my sample of children. They seemed to enjoy it, especially the MA/HA children I picked as they are often expected to get on with things whilst the teacher/TA focuses on the LA. Instead, they were getting the full of attention of an adult and were being asked to talk about their ideas etc. :). If yo...

PGCE: Only The Positives: May 2012

http://pgceonlythepositives.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

PGCE: Only The Positives. A simple log of the highlights, funny moments and achievements [hopefully] from my PGCE year. :D Leave your mark. Saturday, 26 May 2012. The Ancient Egypt display came down this week [or, rather, was reduced in size and moved to another display board] - that was the class topic for spring term. As we are 6 weeks into summer term now, and with Ofsted looming, it was time for a change. :). Some were fantastic, some were very cute. Eg, 'Did he have bunk beds? Saturday, 19 May 2012.

PGCE: Only The Positives: Post-PGCE Update

http://pgceonlythepositives.blogspot.com/2012/11/post-pgce-update.html

PGCE: Only The Positives. A simple log of the highlights, funny moments and achievements [hopefully] from my PGCE year. :D Leave your mark. Tuesday, 6 November 2012. My placement class teacher has filled me in on the destination of the broad beans. :). The class picked them when they were ready, cooked and enjoyed them. I am so very pleased that they turned out well and that the children had a chance to try them, as a lot of them had not tried broad beans before. Teaching a lesson in a school you don't k...

PGCE: Only The Positives: One half term on placement? Completed! :D

http://pgceonlythepositives.blogspot.com/2012/06/one-half-term-on-placement-completed-d.html

PGCE: Only The Positives. A simple log of the highlights, funny moments and achievements [hopefully] from my PGCE year. :D Leave your mark. Friday, 1 June 2012. One half term on placement? The children are fantastic - they are definitely a highlight of any PGCE. They make you smile, with their little ways and some of the things they say, every day. :D. As the title says, today marks the end of a half term. An entire half term as the main teacher for 29 children. A very scary notion! And, before that, I'v...

PGCE: Only The Positives: March 2012

http://pgceonlythepositives.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

PGCE: Only The Positives. A simple log of the highlights, funny moments and achievements [hopefully] from my PGCE year. :D Leave your mark. Thursday, 29 March 2012. This afternoon, we decided to organise an Easter chick hunt. It was a bit of a faff but it was well worth it - if only for the giggles we got out of it. :). And then write down a clue. All the clues were compiled in a box and dished out at random, so the children could follow a clue to reach a chick. Simple enough. With an accompanying arrow.

Surviving a Primary PGCE

Surviving a Primary PGCE. No lies, no exaggerations, just the experiences of a school-based PGCE. Sunday, 13 September 2015. Lack of mentor suppport - what you can do. Following from my last post, the biggest let down of my year was poor mentoring and I have been asked a good question about what others in the same situation as me could do in the future. This is a very hard topic for any student to get over and in the end led to my failing - but is there anything that can be done about it? It is important...
