Happiness – Philosophy Conference. April 25, 2011 at 10:53 pm ( Uncategorized. It is really hard to tell if one can be happy in this life or not. According to Aquinas and Aristotle, one cannot be happy in this life. For Aquinas, happiness is the contemplation of God. For Aristotle one cannot be completely happy in this life; is until one’s life comes to an end that we can say I lived a happy life . I believe both are right. We can be happy in this life, but the highest good is the contemplation of God.

A Beautiful Mind and Descartes. April 1, 2011 at 2:54 am ( Uncategorized. Have you ever stop and think about how it would be like to be a schizophrenic? One of the symptoms of schizophrenia is hallucinations (hearing, feeling, smelling, tasting or seeing things that are not there or are not real). The Idea of ‘God’. March 30, 2011 at 5:38 pm ( Uncategorized. Plato thought that the humans didn’t learn or discovered things but that they recollected. Plato thought that the soul was immortal. Before our soul comes to our body, it learns everything somewhere else. When we learn something we are in fact just remembering what our soul already knew. That’s how Plato explains how we know certain things that can’t be taught, like virtues. Action vs. Contemplation. March 12, 2011 at 2:26 am ( Uncategorized.

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. 8220;If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound? Well philosophy class. You’ve done it again. I thought I knew my answer, and I still think I know it, but now I’m all jumbled up inside. DARN YOU! A thinking thing involves the senses, and as Descartes point out, the senses can be fooled. An example he gives is dreaming, while everything may feel real it is, in fact, only in the mind. What about an extended thing? So just incase you didn...

Wednesday, March 4, 2009. From the very title of this section (Antimoral Incentives) in Schopenhauer's text, one could assume that it is going to start off on a negative note. And, the first sentence of the sections proves such a claim to be true. Schopenhauer begins, "The chief and fundamental incentive in man as in the animal is egoism. Allow me to introduce several passages from Schopenhauer's magnum opus, The World as Will and Representation. He begins with the bold statement:. If we were to approach...
