Pilgrim Route Finders

In 2006 we rode our horses along the via Francigena. This year (2007) we took our bikes (and as always our dog, Vasco) with the dual aims of producing a guide book and raising money through sponsorship for 3 Rotary projects - an orphanage in Togo-Benin, books for schoolchildren in Madagascar and medical equipment for hospitals in Haiti. We reached Rome on September 5th and clocked up 2,000 kms and have now completed the guidebooks, available from www.pilgrimagepublicatons.com

Pilgrim Route Finders: Day 8 – Tergnier – Laon – 35km

http://pilgrimagepublications.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-8-130707-tergnier-laon-35km.html

Monday, 10 September 2007. Day 8 – Tergnier – Laon – 35km. The sun finally, finally decides to emerge on the very day that we only need to cycle in the morning. Actually, I am not really complaining, because after an easy stretch on the bikes, we are now in a hire car on our way to Switzerland and two days at the Montreux Jazz Festival (tickets for Rickie Lee Jones and Jeff Beck – having birthdays and getting older sometimes has its compensations). In passing, the uninitiated in the wiles of French local...

http://pilgrimagepublications.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-56-siena-san-quirico-dorcia-56km.html

Monday, 10 September 2007. Day 56 - Siena - San Quirico d'Orcia - 56km. We exchange news and views with their lecturer, with whom we had not managed to speak to the day before, promising also to send him a copy of our guide book. In return he offers to give us copies of reports by his students who have walked the St James Way and the Via Francigena - I sense this could be a mutually useful relationship. Then it is out into the 'boonies' (where does that word come from? Our walking and riding day is physi...

http://pilgrimagepublications.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-91011-140707-6-160707-montreux-laon.html

Monday, 10 September 2007. Day 9/10/11 – Montreux. I have shaved my legs and Paul has shaved his beard - off! PP Look, I am 59 next month and hate it. Having decided to make this trip as another kick against age I am not going around with a bunch of white hair under my nose advertising my decline.). It’s tough here, bed at midnight, after too many beers and sitting outside to listen to free concerts. Montreux is an experience no one should miss. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A piedi da terni a cambridge, d'inverno. Tre mesi e una settimana (sono arrivato). Genova, Torino, Milano →.

My winter hike from italy to england. Brought me a truckload of mp3 divided into categories. I will update you about my evening listening, ’cause during the day my steps’ tip tap is enough, along with the symphony of the place I’m walking trough. Italy seen by foot. The hole with Europe all around. The looong run-up to jump over the Channel. You are so silly. Paul the Peddler and Babette the Babbler. The art and science of travelling light. A piedi da terni a cambridge, d'inverno. Il cammino spazza via i pensieri, il che non è male, ma porta il rischio di ritrovarsi a fissare le punte dei piedi che altalenano. KeyBoardBurbling: Icons

http://keyboardburbling.blogspot.com/2008/03/icons.html

It must be something to do with being nearly 50, but suddenly I want to tell the world what I think. No idea where this will go, but suspect finding out will be interesting enough. Saturday, March 15, 2008. When an icon crumbles, it is only human to feel the tremors in your own feet. Terry Pratchett. Has always been with me, either in a current book or reference, usually, but not exclusively, shared with my daughter Lucy, who has inherited my own passion for his writing. This morning I w. It must be something to do with being nearly 50, but suddenly I want to tell the world what I think. No idea where this will go, but suspect finding out will be interesting enough. Thursday, March 6, 2008. Having decided that letting my blog go is a sign of letting my thinking go - I will now try to make at least two or three blogdom forays per week - even if no one reads them. Is the solution perhaps in the very doom and gloom of the economic down turn everyone seems to be predicting? Saw at the Coquecl...

Pilgrim Route Finders

Monday, 10 September 2007. Day 62 - La Storta - Rome - 15km. From here we locate the pilgrim office, have our credentials stamped for the last time and receive our certificates. So now all we have to is find out about the trains home. Our panier bags remain water-tight, but unfortunately the fixings are shot. Our dog basket is showing the first signs of disintegration and I am afraid will be retired. The PDA and GPS unit are fine and the laptop survives despite various abuses. The worst was down to m...
