A grassroots organization, POD/PC works closely with other local conservation/preservation groups. Their finest hour came on October 23, 2000 when a conservation easement on the forty-acre site of the trout hatchery in Lobachsville became a reality. It was the final victory in the famous five-year encounter with the Wissahickon Bottled Water Company in which POD/PC participated. Jeffrey E. Gorrin, President. Jaap van Liere, Treasurer. The water company obtained permits from Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection and the Delaware River Basin Commission to extract 288,000 gallons of water a day. Their next step was application for a zoning amendment in Pike Township, which would allow the use of the property for the development of a commercial well, pumping and storage and trucking facilities for round the clock shipment to the bottling plant in Kutztown.
