Somewhere over the rainbow: January 2010

Somewhere over the rainbow. Sunday, January 3, 2010. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. I haven't updated this thing since the last day of finals. What an incredible night that was. The feeling when I stepped out of my final final was an indescribable sense of freedom. So Will they be stressed again? In this new year, I hope. For the best and hope. Because he loves me dearly. Subscri...

Not a Piece of Cake. I recently completed the Wilton Method Level One (Cake Basics) class at my local Michael's. A few of my girlfriends from church convinced me to take it with them. It was fun - I often referred to my class sessions as "finger painting for adults" or "playing with my food" - but it was definitely a lot of work. I'm not. I did have to plan ahead enough to borrow the necessary cake pans from a friend! Like the cake says and the weather lately has proven: "Welcome, Spring!

The Wonder Years: June 2010

Tuesday, June 29, 2010. I've moved into a new apartment, successfully navigated my travel-filled month and a half, and am in a bit of a lull right now. Sure, I have things I need to do, should be doing right now actually, but they are not pressing. I don't feel pressed anyway :). For now, I'm doing well, but I should really go make lunch before I have to go to work. There is more that I don't have time to tell, so I'm not going to attempt it :). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Dancing to her iPod.

Somewhere over the rainbow. Monday, June 29, 2009. Columnist Andrew Sullivan, on his blog for The Nation magazine, wrote that he grieved for Jackson "but I also grieve for the culture that created and destroyed him.". Taken from the 6/29 CNN article "Michael Jackson and the 'extreme' price of fame". Sunday, June 28, 2009. During my trip to Spain I read three books – Revolutionary Road, Atonement, and The Last Queen. Her fate is very sad, but she protected the crown of Spain. This does not have a movi...

Recently in a meeting someone I respect mentioned offhand that they think that discontentment is not always a bad thing - that sometimes God uses "divine discontent" to move us into another direction. The comment was not directed to me, but it really gave a name to some of the things I'm really struggling with lately. Contentment. Calling. Exhaustion. Mission. How do you know if it's God telling you something through your discontent, or just plain burnout? Started a masters program. I've been far more ex...

I can't believe how quickly this week has flown by - another Thursday? But I am grateful for this week, even if it did slip away from me too quickly. My birthday is Saturday, so John asked me for some hints for what to get me as a gift. Well, I've already received the wonderful gifts I mentioned here. And I really already have everything I could possibly need. Of course I joke about wanting an iPad. Or a new car. Besides, my iPod Classic from 2005 still works anyway! Thursday, June 24, 2010. Whew, I'm ju...

Somewhere over the rainbow. Monday, May 17, 2010. Til the next steps made plain will be;. To hear, with the inner hearing,. The voice that will call for me. With hope that need not grow dim;. The master is pledged to guide me,. And my eyes are unto him. Perhaps it may be today. The master will quickly open. The gate to my future way. I know though i've waited long,. That while he withholds his purpose,. His waiting cannot be wrong. The master will not be late:. Since he knows i am waiting.

Working full time in a confused and overwhelmed office where everyone is new at their jobs. Physically aching because that's just what my body does under stress. Learning new people, new structure, totally new job (Financial Aid for a liberal arts major? New expectations/necessity of working super long days (also see point above). Not having time to cook. Going to school full time (class on weekends, reading/writing papers on weeknights) with some doubt about whether it's worth it. I'm happy with my life.
