Postcards from Holly: Love songs in the middle of the night
http://postcardsfromholly.blogspot.com/2013/02/love-songs-in-middle-of-night.html
Thursday, 14 February 2013. Love songs in the middle of the night. Out”, but songs of pure unadulterated passion. Every now and then, a car passes in the distance, threatening to drown them out, but my ears strain for their music and their voices seem to crescendo in defiance. I drift back to sleep, with their romantic chorus echoing in my ears…. Posted by Holly Howe. Birds singing at night. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Tales from the city. View my complete profile. Postcards from Holly: Why Frieze left me frozen
http://postcardsfromholly.blogspot.com/2012/11/why-frieze-left-me-frozen.html
Friday, 16 November 2012. Why Frieze left me frozen. On 19 Oct 2012). I don’t like it. There, I’ve said it. And I may well be the only person to say it because everyone I speak to thinks it’s great. This year was my third time going to the fair and as I walked around, I tried to put my finger on what exactly it is that I don’t like. Initially I thought that maybe it was because I was viewing it on my own and that perhaps the reason I enjoyed Art Basel Miami Beach. It was completely different. Which is no...
Postcards from Holly: Riding on trains
http://postcardsfromholly.blogspot.com/2011/08/riding-on-trains.html
Wednesday, 3 August 2011. I feel like I’ve done quite a lot of riding on trains in the past few months. It’s always a pleasant experience – an opportunity to read your book, do some writing, or just gaze out the window, letting your mind go for a walk. And it. However, despite all of this, one of my favourite train journeys was a rough and ready jaunt from Bentota to Colombo. The two hour journey along the west coast of Sri Lanka was ca. People bustled up and down the train, selling dried peppers as snac...

Postcards from Holly: How to bag an art boy
http://postcardsfromholly.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-bag-art-boy.html
Sunday, 16 October 2011. How to bag an art boy. It’s been a big week for the London art scene. Frieze Art Fair was on, as well as at least five satellite art fairs, plus loads of galleries hosting events of their own to tie in with all the arty goings on. There were a lot of people about…and a lot of men in particular. I was chatting with Dscreet. To bag an art boy. The responses were varied, and more than one concurred that slutty dressing was the way forward. I didn’t get to put that clot...Artist): &#...

Raging aimlessly at the actions of the media. Royally getting on my tits. September 18, 2012. So hands up high in the air and wave ’em like you just don’t care if you’ve managed to miss the whole broo ha ha about Kate being snapped topless in France! Anyone who has must have been gratefully languishing in some sort of benevolent news coma. I envy you! It’s an awful mental image, and one I can’t seem to shake. God I wish the coverage would stop, for my own sanity. 8220;Look at us! The degree of voyeurism ...

Raging aimlessly at the actions of the media. Royally getting on my tits →. August 16, 2012. Silly season is upon us. The Olympics is over and the press and media are flailing around like a thresh in a barn clutching for husks and straws of news to throw about. The pap that you put between news and sport. Yes that’s right. Sheep. Text messages! And that’s the other thing about A-level day. It seems that for one day and one day only the press seem to collectively engage in the dubious practice o...On how ...

Wednesday, 28 January 2009. A Dog Has Died - A poem by Pablo Neruda. My dog has died. I buried him in the garden. Next to a rusted old machine. Some day I'll join him right there,. But now he's gone with his shaggy coat,. His bad manners and his cold nose,. And I, the materialist, who never believed. In any promised heaven in the sky. For any human being,. I believe in a heaven I'll never enter. Yes, I believe in a heaven for all dogdom. Where my dog waits for my arrival. Of having lost a companion.

Postcards From The Hedge
Postcards From The Hedge. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. I've been shot . and barely felt a thing. I'll admit it. Every once in a great while, I Google myself. What can I say, I like Googling myself. It's fun. Yet just now, after Googling myself, I'm a little disturbed to learn that I was apparently mistaken for a wild turkey (the animal, not the whiskey) and shot in Arizona. Anyway, here's what I'm talking about http:/ www.krde.com/2009 04 19 archive-news.html#1668971585440535661. Mr Hedger called out that he...

Postcards From Holland
Thursday, October 26, 2017. How is it that when you're in a certain "season" in life, it feels like you will never make it through? When my kids were little, those tantrums and refusals of meals felt like I would never get past bad behavior. There were serious ups and downs. Many of them I remember quite clearly. It usually involved the oldest, Holland. I still struggle with why this was our path. The path we chose didn't involve this. We had plans. Saturday, August 5, 2017. The Homeschool Buyer Co-op.

Tuesday, 9 August 2016. Hidden Gems at the British Museum. This story was originally published on the Londnr. The (not so yummy) mummies. The (allegedly stolen) Elgin Marbles. The (not a language course) Rosetta Stone. We all know what’s in the British Museum, right? Well, we all probably know what the highlights are, given that the museum has held its place as the most popular cultural attraction in the UK for the past eight years, with around 6.7 million visitors passing through its doors annually.
