Prairie Rose's Garden: December 2014
http://prairierosesgarden.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Notes from a beginning gardener with sprinkles of poetry and philosophic musings. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. A Look Back at 2014. Bloom Day came and went, and I didn't get a post up. It was the first time I ever missed a Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. In six years, but all I had to show was a measly store-bought poinsettia. But as the weeks dragged on and winter showed no signs of leaving, gardeners in my part of the country started to get antsy. Not much to do but keeping the bird feeders filled and...
Prairie Rose's Garden: January 2015
http://prairierosesgarden.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Notes from a beginning gardener with sprinkles of poetry and philosophic musings. Friday, January 23, 2015. A Wisconsin Garden Gem. Do you have a bucket list of gardens you want to visit someday? In Janesville, Wisconsin. Beth of Plant Postings. What do strangers who have only "met" through blogging find to talk about for the better part of a day? Well, as any gardener knows, if those two bloggers are also gardeners, there is no shortage of topics of conversation. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if ...
Prairie Rose's Garden: Big Ideas in Small Spaces: Garden Walk 2015
http://prairierosesgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/big-ideas-in-small-spaces-garden-walk.html
Notes from a beginning gardener with sprinkles of poetry and philosophic musings. Saturday, August 8, 2015. Big Ideas in Small Spaces: Garden Walk 2015. The Garden Walk requires hundreds of volunteers in order to be successful, and I volunteered for my usual morning shift- to avoid standing during the heat of the day. The garden I was assigned to was in an older neighborhood with standard 1/4 acre lots. But this relatively small space was a showcase for using found objects as garden art. Not far away, in...
Prairie Rose's Garden: July Bloom Day
http://prairierosesgarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/july-bloom-day.html
Notes from a beginning gardener with sprinkles of poetry and philosophic musings. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. It's the middle of July already- or as we are beginning to call it, "Monsoon Season"- and time for another Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. Between all the rainy days and being busy with family activities, I haven't had time to do any work in the garden lately. But I do take a little stroll each day, admiring all the blooms and ignoring the weeds and anything else that needs to be done. All of the lilie...
Prairie Rose's Garden: Mid-May Blooms for GBBD
http://prairierosesgarden.blogspot.com/2015/05/mid-may-blooms-for-gbbd.html
Notes from a beginning gardener with sprinkles of poetry and philosophic musings. Friday, May 15, 2015. Mid-May Blooms for GBBD. An old friend texted me this week and asked if he could stop by: "I want to see all your flowers." I knew what he wanted to see- all the different tulips I had been posting daily on Facebook the last few weeks. Unfortunately, I wasn't going to be home that day, and in my reply I explained that all the tulips were finished for the year. "What? The tulips are gone? The same is tr...

Sarah Laurence: Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor
http://blog.sarahlaurence.com/2015/05/coastal-maine-botanical-gardens-in.html
Novels, art and life in coastal Maine, as I like it. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor. Spring comes late to Maine, but it makes up for lost time with everything blooming all at once. On Mother's Day, my daughter and I visited Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. It's one of my favorite places, and she wanted to scout it for her senior project. She's creating a botanical guide to Maine plants with photos and drawings. We still share a love of nature. Tulips! Yes, the...
Sarah Laurence: March 2015
http://blog.sarahlaurence.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Novels, art and life in coastal Maine, as I like it. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. My Town: Brunswick, Maine. Brunswick looks best in winter white. Yes, I know it's "spring," but my town has an offbeat sense of humor. Read the road sign: Maine Street. Brunswick has a population of 20,000, making it the biggest town in Maine. It's a half an hour up the coast from Portland; our biggest city has only 60,000 people. In winter the town green becomes a skating rink. Of course there is a barber shop. The Walls Aro...
Sarah Laurence: Wells Reserve in Maine
http://blog.sarahlaurence.com/2015/04/wells-reserve-in-maine.html
Novels, art and life in coastal Maine, as I like it. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Wells Reserve in Maine. To escape the muddy trails of April, we drove an hour south to the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve. Laudholm Beach is open to the public along with several acres of trails through the wetlands. There are loose rocks to cross and tidal pools to hop so hiking boots are prudent. It's well worth it for the calm ocean vista, only a quarter hour drive from busy Kennebunkport. Enjoy the spring air!

http://myfoodandgardens.blogspot.com/2013/08/trapping-garden-creatures.html
My Food and Gardens. From family gardening to cooking. Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The little guy found a trap, set it up with a little peanut butter one night. It worked. He caught a shy little guy. He was relocated miles away to a very secluded wooded area where we have pictures of them thriving and growing to massive sizes. Here is a video of one of the released and angry animals. Gardener on Sherlock Street. August 20, 2013 at 6:21 PM. Hope the coons are happy in their new home! View my complete profile.

Prairie Rose Recoveries
Monday, April 28, 2014. Did you think I was dead? Just kidding, I've been taking the time to focus on other things but keep getting asked and told to update Prairie Rose Recoveries, oops. So, here's an update. I ordered a rabbit from Fox Trail Taxidermy in April 2012, and finally I might be getting not one rabbit, but two. Here's a photo of one of them I was promised. Anyways, people have still been sending me photos of dead things which is super awesome. I'll post a couple up later this week. As you may...

May 2, 2016. Arikara Bear Lodge Story. My friend Preston needed a story for his class and asked me to tell him one. So I told him this story if the Bear Lodge or what some people call Devils Tower. Photo by Brandie Macdonald. The Arikara covered a lot of territory. They were known for their cunning, strategic military skills, expert tracking skills and fierce economic control over the main water ways through out the great plains. The older sister walked her younger sister down to a cave near the river an...

Prairie Rose's Garden
Notes from a beginning gardener with sprinkles of poetry and philosophic musings. Sunday, April 15, 2018. Patience is a Virtue: April GBBD. Atience is a virtue. After my many years of teaching, I suspect, however, that she repeated this mantra as much to keep her own frustrations in check as much as ours. I know I would have. Well, let's just see what we can find. Roco's memory garden had a variety of crocuses and other early small blooms, including Puschkinia. I have several different colored singles, a...
