The Van der Poel Sharity Fund was founded on the 1st of October 2004 by ir. A.pm van der Poel and his wife M.C. van der Poel-Boekema. Arthur van der Poel was born in Hoorn, the Netherlands, in 1948, and is a graduate of Eindhoven University of Technology. He first joined the R&D lab of the Dutch PTT, then worked for the International Telecommunication Union in Indonesia, before moving to Philips in 1984. Stichting Ortega is focused on development aid on health, education, water and sanitation in the Southeastern and Southwestern islands of Maluku province in Indonesia. In Indonesia, the Foundation has granted a request of the Foundation Ortega for the expansion of a school with four classrooms for secondary education for students in the villages Darat Dian Dian Pulau and Rumah Dian on the island of Little Boulder in the province of Maluku.
