Every Home Place has a Story…What's Yours? Beth Anderson, M.L.I.S. Capt Cornelius Corsen, born in 1645, was justice of the peace and captain of the militia on Staten Island. He was also my ninth great-grandfather, and for seven generations after him, his descendants lived, worked, played, and died on Staten Island. They were mariners: oystermen, ferryboat captains, and shipbuilders. It was cellular memory. In that place I’d never been before, I heard the whisperings of other old boats, creaking...Since t...

APE SHALL NOT KILL APE: August 2013
http://apeshall.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Somehow I've never posted pictures of this Golden Age remnant before now. The Gardiner-Tyler House. Was built in 1837 (according to an article in the NY Times. Paywall}). I figure it's a nice way to try to get back to posting. I've been occupied with my swords and sorcery blog and getting things done around the house. I'd like to see this blog moving along again so here's hoping. From 1868 to 1874, Juliana Tyler. The widow of President John Tyler. Wednesday, August 28, 2013.

APE SHALL NOT KILL APE: March 2014
http://apeshall.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 27, 2014. Snug Harbor Randall Memorial Church. Interior images showing the apse and altar. The church was located in the bottom left of the lower picture, around where the cars are parked. One of the things I only really thought about a few years ago was that I never really understood what Snug Harbor is supposed to look like. The location of the trees were deliberately planned and not just scattered around randomly. All the forested section along Henderson Avenue? Thursday, March 27, 2014.

Commodore Simonson, Reveal Thyself | Staten Island Stories
https://statenislandgenealogy.wordpress.com/2013/04/07/commodore-simonson-reveal-thyself
Every Home Place has a Story…What's Yours? April 7, 2013. Commodore Simonson, Reveal Thyself. I’m on a quest to sort out all of my ancestors named Abraham Simonson (there are ten). Once I figure out Abraham, I’ll work on the Isaacs (11) Elizabeths (15) and Johns (22). It would help if they were in different lines of work, but no. Mariners all, it seems – or mostly. New York American, Saturday March 24, 1838. Kate’s Lighthouse, Robins Reef (Photo credit: animaltourism.com). Wednesday, March 26th 1862.

APE SHALL NOT KILL APE: May 2013
http://apeshall.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Guess Something Right and Win a Prize! That's my shelf of Staten Island history books. It's not perfect but I'm pretty proud of it. The highlight is the complete set of Leng and Davis. Another gem is "Staten Island 1524 - 1898". By Henry G. Steinmeyer. Now here's the thing. I've got two copies: one good one and one worn one. So I'm giving the worn one away to one lucky winner! All you have to do is guess correctly where this statue is. I mean it's an astronaut in Zero-G! History ...
