Programming The Web: Actor Model: Multi-threaded Parallel Processing in Java
http://jamesrdf.blogspot.com/2013/03/actor-model-multi-threaded-parallel.html
Applying the best qualities from the web's infrastructure. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Actor Model: Multi-threaded Parallel Processing in Java. Actor Model: Multi-threaded Parallel Processing in Java. The Actor model provides a constrained way to use multi-threaded parallel processing. Each Actor is used to process queued requests (or "messages") one at a time, as one stage of a pipeline. Below is one way to implement the Actor model in Java. We'll sketch out how to define a task class called GraphReaderTas...

Further information about Mulgara can be found in the following blogs:. Related Open Source Projects. Has become closely aligned with Mulgara, with many contributors being members of both communities. Is a system for storing and retrieving objects using an RDF store, taking advantage of several features unique to Mulgara. This is similar to ORM. Systems such as Hibernate. Which is becoming the delivery platform for the Public Library of Science (PLoS).

FlyWeb – Working Across Databases for Drosophila Functional Genomics. Over the last year or so, my main priority has been the FlyWeb Project. Unfortunately, FlyWeb was supported by short-term funding (18 months), and is coming to an end soon. Here are a few belated notes on what we did and why we did it…. The main goal of FlyWeb was to minimize the time required for a researcher in the domain of. Which hosts the following cross-database gene expression data search applications:. 8211; search for a. They ...

Technical stuff sometimes about programming. Monday, July 15, 2013. Copying between two uploaders in CarrierWave. To copy between two cloud providers using CarrierWave and Fog is a bit tricky. Copying from one provider to a temporary file and then storing it in the other seems to work but the problem is that the file name is not preserved. If you wrap the temporary file in a SanitizedFile then Carrierwave will update the content without changing the name of the file. Tmp = File.new("/tmp/tmp", "wb").

On the OAIS Information Model as a Platform-Independent Model (PIM) in a Model-Driven Software Architecture | Alistair Miles

On the OAIS Information Model as a Platform-Independent Model (PIM) in a Model-Driven Software Architecture. The CASPAR project aims to design and implement components of a distributed digital preservation architecture, taking the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model as the basis for this architecture. Parts of the OAIS reference model are defined using UML class diagrams. Can these UML class diagrams be used in the design of CASPAR software components? The pre-defined Java transformat...

Technical stuff sometimes about programming. Monday, December 13, 2004. REST of the world. How I explained REST to my wife. Ryan: Machines don't have a universal noun - that's why they suck. Every programming language, database, or other kind of system has a different way of talking about nouns. That's why the URL is so important. It let's all of these systems tell each other about each other's nouns. Wife: But when I'm looking at a web page, I don't think of it like that. Results of a Query. And my pape...

Versioning and the Web. This post looks at some of the problems of identifying, decribing and linking “versions” of “digital objects”, from the point of view of the Web, drawing especially on the Architecture of the Web. Published by W3C. These thoughts were stimulated by the recent kickoff meeting of the new Version Information Framework (VIF) project. Provides some very interesting mechanisms for talking about information as a virtual commodity. The Web has also had to deal with the conceptual rela...
