Begin 2 to 16 hours ahead). 1 cup (8 ounces) cool to lukewarm water, preferably spring water (90 to 100 F). 1/2 teaspoon active dry or instant yeast. 1 1/4 cups (5 1/4 ounces) King Arthur Unbleached Bread Flour. 1/4 cup (1 ounce) King Arthur White Whole Wheat or Traditional Whole Wheat Flour. All of the sponge starter (above). 1 cup (8 ounces) lukewarm water, preferably spring water (100 to 115 F). 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons salt.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Here is the second pumpkin pie recipe I promised. This is one of my favorite holiday pies, and it's making a return to Thanksgiving after a 3 year absence. It has all the heartiness of a pumpkin pie, but with a sweet crunchy walnut layer on top. Seriously, I'm hoping that there are going to be some leftovers. And this is a fantastic cookie recipe. It's been a couple of years since I've made them, which was at Christmas time. I like to include something with fruit in my gift boxes.
