Sects and the City: November 2012
http://sectsandcity.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Sects and the City. One Rabbi's journey through life and learning. Rabbi Elizabeth S. Wood. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. A Mi Sheberach for me? Suddenly, everything became different. And before we knew it, my mother had to be admitted to the hospital because her blood numbers were so dangerously low. Her cough was too suspect. She couldn't eat, she couldn't breathe. It was not good. And our faith has helped sustain us as well: a visit from our Rabbi here in Indiana who offered words of prayer and comfort...

Sects and the City: March 2012

Sects and the City. One Rabbi's journey through life and learning. Rabbi Elizabeth S. Wood. Wednesday, March 28, 2012. 40 years of female Rabbis. When I was applying to Rabbinical school, right out of college, I remember having the following fears: maybe I'm too young, maybe I don't have enough experience, maybe I'm not what they're looking for. But never once did I say to myself: Maybe I won't get in because I am a female. At last week's CCAR (Central Conference of American Rabbis). Here is what I wrote:.

Swimming through the thickness of lifes waters. 04:44 pm May 22nd, 2014. A Question of Citizenship. Apart from the occasional donation or social media post Idid little to get involved, even though I'm a get involved kind of guy. Why not? Well, if I'm honest, mostly I felt like as a foreigner it wasn't my place.Instead I found myself ever looking over my shoulder at South Africa, as if it was there I should help. It left me impotent because this has become home. SJF's approach is to gather a group of folk...
Sects and the City: 2 years
http://sectsandcity.blogspot.com/2015/01/2-years.html
Sects and the City. One Rabbi's journey through life and learning. Rabbi Elizabeth S. Wood. Wednesday, January 7, 2015. My mother, Sharon, died two years ago, today. Why don't we dance anymore? I'm not okay with that. Why don't we laugh anymore? I'm not okay with that. The years go by. Like stones under rushing water. Yeah, the years go by. Like stones under rushing water. Sending you hugs and knowing that your mom will always embrace and inspire you. :) May her memory continue to be for a blessing.

Tales from T.V.: June 2010

Sunday, June 20, 2010. Okay, the chili/cherry/lime pork roast is in the cooker. So in a few hours we'll know if it's awesome or never to be spoken of again. Pitted, sliced cherries - maybe 2 cups. 1tbsp green chili sugar (one of those random things I just happened to have). 2 red hot peppers (I remembered to wear gloves this time). Zest of 1 lime. My plan is to serve with brown rice. Maybe fresh shredded red cabbage. Originally uploaded by callenstewart. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Monday, May 31, 2010. My grandfather was in the Navy during World War II. One night, when I was about 17, he told me his story about the King of Arabia. He was aboard the USS Murphy when they picked up the King of Saudi Arabia to meet with President Roosevelt. The meeting is documented in history, but his stories were not.
