Rachel Janssen

Wednesday, July 1, 2009. My favorite story from the semester was probably Desiree's Baby. I thought the twist at the end was kind of funny in that men always blame women for everything and won't ever admit their own faults (at least most of the time) and this story was a perfect example of that. My least favorite story from the semester was Yellow Wallpaper. I don't like creepy scary things, and this story kind of reminded me of some sort of horror movie. Very disturbing. Rachel Janssen: "Everything that Rises Must Converge"

http://www.racheljanssen.blogspot.com/2009/06/everything-that-rises-must-converge.html

Thursday, June 18, 2009. Everything that Rises Must Converge". I think that Julien's mother is the more sympathetic character. Julien is so rude to her all the time and wants to see her unhappy that you can't help but feel bad for her. I can't sympathize with Julien at all because he has such a negative attitude all the time, and his rudeness just turns me off to him. June 28, 2009 at 4:41 PM. Wednesday, June 17, 2009. I think that there are interesting notations about some of the names in the story. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. The Man Who Was Almost A Man". To Dave I think manhood means being free to do whatever you want. I think he still feels babied by his mother and is so protected that he can't do things that he wants to do. He also feels that he isn't benefitting from the work that he is doing for Hawkins, which is another thing that would happen if he was "a man". Friday, June 26, 2009. Elizabeth is the most sympathetic character to me. She is a young girl who has lost her mother and is now li...

Rachel Janssen: "A Spinster's Tale"

http://www.racheljanssen.blogspot.com/2009/06/spinsters-tale.html

Friday, June 26, 2009. I don't think the setting really has that much of an impact on the story. I think unless you completely changed it to like an urban city the story would be relatively the same no matter what small town you put it in. I didn't notice anything that stood out in the story that was specific to the south. June 28, 2009 at 4:39 PM. Blog Check, Week 4: 3 of 4 complete (75%). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
