A long overdue rant « The Radical Radish

https://raedical.wordpress.com/2012/04/12/a-long-overdue-rant

A long overdue rant. Long overdue in the sense that anything here is long overdue as I hadn’t blogged for a long long time. Long overdue in the sense that Australia’s anti-intellectualism and suspicion of those with a university education has long gotten up my nose and it’s about time that I said my piece about it. (No guarantees that this is my piece in its entirety, I reserve my right to rant further on this topic). Ok, some background, some context is probably necessary before I put my rant pants on.

Crime and punishment, or the lass turns seven. « The Radical Radish

https://raedical.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/crime-and-punishment-or-the-lass-turns-seven

Crime and punishment, or the lass turns seven. As she gets older I notice how different she is to me as a child. Which of course is to be expected, as she is her own person. But our differences in temperament are so stark I wonder whether my parenting style clashes with her personality. We’ve had our moments, shall we say, and there has been times when I question myself. This entry was posted in Feminist. Rambling greetings from a neglected blog. Wherein rather than confront I retrospectively vent →.

It’s officially been a big day. « The Radical Radish

https://raedical.wordpress.com/2010/12/08/its-officially-been-a-big-day

It’s officially been a big day. A big day, a crazy busy week, a hectic month, and a hell of a year. Then there was the glass of port that was knocked over, all over the computer desk and keyboard. And lastly the dog knocked over a couple of pot plants, smashing one ceramic pot and getting potting mix in the basket of clean washing that was sitting below the coffee table upon which the plants had been placed. And all that jazz! Its full (as usual) of feminist goodness and awesome writing. My current p...

Wherein rather than confront I retrospectively vent. I’ve had a mostly lovely evening today, but a run in with a some random asshole has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The incident is still niggling. And why is it that you always work out what to say after the event? Kids are kids, and sometimes have to be reminded what the right way to behave is. And sometimes adults could do with that reminder too. And so is unselfishness, empathy and other wonderful behaviours. Our role as our children&#821...

Newer posts →. Rambling greetings from a neglected blog. Hello, hello, anyone out there? Cough, Cough* Hmm, dusty. What’s been happening? 8211; Yes, I do believe that’s tumbleweed. Clears tumbleweed, chases down dust bunnies, frantically tidies*. Ok, here we are. So yeah, I have rather neglected this blog haven’t I? Which, incidentally has produced an eminently interesting result, even through at this point (two weeks post-election) we are still not sure what that result is. My son is not so happy. H...

The Bog Logger: March 2009

http://theboglogger.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

The view from the loo. Wednesday, 18 March 2009. Booze Bar and Black. Even if you haven't been to the newly re-opened Beresford yet, no doubt you've heard about its sexy curved bar. Its naff wine list (organised into cheap, decent, good), and, of course, its magnificent loos. You've heard about the loos, right? Serve Guinness, it comes out of a can, which is poured into a glass, and the glass is then placed on some sort of sonic device which gives the beer a head. It was creepy. Links to this post. The Decay of Lying. Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream. August 1, 2008. 8220;The future always looks good in the golden land, because no one remembers the past.” (STB 4). Literary journalism has the ability to inform with greater depth than the conventional journalism. It warns us about the danger of forgetting about the past. Something that never appeared in the eight-column headlines was always there between them: the revelation that the dream was teaching the dreamers how to live. (STB 17). This was a ...
