Ramblings from a Rock: April 2014
http://www.ramblingrock.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Ramblings from a Rock. A blog about travel, teaching ESL and living in the weird and wonderful countries of Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Korea. Wednesday, 30 April 2014. Middle Ground, Where Are You? On the one hand it's an extreme measure, on the other I can't blame the government, schools or parents for wanting to safeguard their children after such a tragedy. I would like to live in a society somewhere in between Korean and English cultures, but I honestly don't think it exists. Here we have babies sent...

Ramblings from a Rock. A blog about travel, teaching ESL and living in the weird and wonderful countries of Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Korea. Saturday, 12 July 2014. Rio, Rio, Rio! A city I have wanted to visit for so long has not disappointed me. It feels like we've been here for ages and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do justice to the things we've seen and done, but I'll give it a go. Although now I'm rooting for them in the face of the alternative- I don't think the Brazilian population will cope w...

Ramblings from a Rock. A blog about travel, teaching ESL and living in the weird and wonderful countries of Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Korea. Friday, 31 January 2014. Trying to Try New Things. During January two ever so slightly less than successful new experiences have come my way. I tried to learn how to move and stop. I couldn't do it. Within minutes Lee went sliding uncontrollably down into the path of oncoming skiers, promptly falling over and detaching ski boot from ski. He got off and fell over. Befor...

Ramblings from a Rock. A blog about travel, teaching ESL and living in the weird and wonderful countries of Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Korea. Friday, 23 May 2014. Travel, study, pack, enjoy! You have to wonder where it all comes from and why we really need it. We stopped off in Amsterdam on the way back, but not without hitch. One of the things I'm beginning to realise about travelling so often is that it results in fairly frequent (and expensive) f*ck ups. So here's the story:. We were told it was impossibl...

Ramblings from a Rock. A blog about travel, teaching ESL and living in the weird and wonderful countries of Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Korea. Thursday, 16 October 2014. I love my blog. I hate my blog. When I haven't blogged for a while it hangs over me, worse the longer I leave it. It's annoying. For the most part I enjoyed my blogging experience. It was fun to put stuff out there and tell of my funny experiences. Now I want to do other things. I JUST WANT TO NOT FEEL GUILTY ABOUT ABANDONING A PROJECT! I am ...

Tasha Sews: April 2015
http://tashsews.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 3 April 2015. Long time no blog! Pattern Review: Vogue 8870. I overcame my lack of sewing mojo in the past month, but it looks as though my blog has been a bit neglected. I am all finished with my March garment of the month, but I haven't had a chance to photograph it yet. To tie you guys over here is an oldie that is yet to make it to the blog. It's a modified version of Vogue 8870. I have previously made this pattern here. And as you can see the bodice is tad more blouson. For this version ...
Tasha Sews: February 2015
http://tashsews.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Friday, 27 February 2015. February Garment of the Month. Pattern Review: Vogue 1387. I have to admit that my sewing mojo has been so low I wasn't sure February's garment was going to happen. Quite a few fellow sewers have mentioned that they have not been as productive as hoped during February, so maybe there has been something in the air? That said, I pulled it out of the bag to finish my muslin for this Vogue 1387. Overall I am really pleased with this because I managed to break my sewing block and tac...

Tasha Sews: Wedding Guest Dress
http://tashsews.blogspot.com/2015/05/wedding-guest-dress.html
Sunday, 17 May 2015. Pattern Review: Vogue 1223. I do enjoy the opportunity of sewing a wedding guest dress. It's a great chance to sew something a little bit special and challenge myself to pick something out of my comfort zone. Two of my uni friends got tied the knot this weekend and I went with Vogue 1223. Here is a close-up of the dress front. you can see a bit more clearly how the pleats extend all the way down the front of the bodice into the skirt. I tested the fit by making the lining first. ...

Tasha Sews: Tasha Stitches!
http://tashsews.blogspot.com/2015/02/tasha-stitches.html
Tuesday, 17 February 2015. Pattern Review: Flower Fairies Zinnia Bookmark Cross Stitch Kit. My sewing mojo has been pretty much non-existent since I got back from Chicago in mid January. I have been really busy catching up with family and friends and to be honest I haven't made sewing a priority. I actually finished the cross stitching towards the end of the summer, but it has been languishing in my sewing basket waiting for me to sew on the backing. I didn't find this project. Too difficult (although I ...
Tasha Sews: July 2014
http://tashsews.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 5 July 2014. Pattern Review: Vogue 8725. I have been itching to make another version of Vogue 8725. I knew that I would love a version with a flared skirt for the summer, but I wasn't 100% keen on the front seam in the original pattern. So I opted to use my adjusted skirt from Butterick 4443. Priced at £1 per metre. I have a couple of trips coming up and am looking forward to wearing it out and about, despite linen creasing like nobody's business. Fingers crossed my hotel will have an iron!
Tasha Sews: July Garment of the Month
http://tashsews.blogspot.com/2015/07/july-garment-of-month.html
Sunday, 26 July 2015. July Garment of the Month. Pattern Review: Simplicity 1872. My mum had a retirement party this weekend and of course I had to make a dress to celebrate. I had been wanting to try out the dress from Simplicity 1872. For years and finally decided to take the plunge. I have made this pattern as a peplum top. Those flounces love to catch in the wind! I already have my August garment planned. It will be an amended version/wearable muslin of the top from New Look 6107. Such a lovely dress!

Life on the Farm. It's been a while since I last posted here so here is a brief run-down of the past two months. First of all I finished my Permaculture Design and Natural Building Course at Rak Tamachat and then headed to Bangkok for a few days of civilisation. However Bangkok was too hectic after life on the farm, so I caught a train back to Chiang Mai. With several days of bed rest and some strong anti-parasite medicine I was feeling well enough to return to Thailand. My original plan was to return di...

Ramblings from the Rock. Perspective, Perception, Paradigms, and Reality. Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid". Targeted deaths curb al-Qaida's expansion. From Paisley Dodds writing for the AP. Recent targeted attacks that killed militants in Somalia, Indonesia and Pakistan have chipped away at al-Qaida's power base, sapping the terror network of key leaders and experienced operatives who train recruits and wage attacks. Not only are experienced leaders in short supply, but finances are short too.

The steamy profile of her body summoned me. I stared at her through the hanging bathroom doors. I was transfixed by the blurred silhouette of her body distorted by the water logged glass shower door. The water was off now. The last dregs of the liquid symphony playing a fading snare on the tiled shower floor.
