The Frith archive was founded by Francis Frith, the pioneer Victorian photographer in 1860. Today it contains over 365,000 photographs of some 7,000 towns and villages throughout Britain. Taken between 1860 and 1970 these form a great topographical record of Britain without equal. This local data link will provide seamless access to the whole Frith Collection. This website was created jointly by two locals of the Rame Peninsula (John Shepherd and Colyn Thomas) in an endeavour to ensure that its past history is not forgotten. Colyn supplied the material he painstakingly collected over a 45 year period (including the slideshows he presented to the local community) whilst John developed the website.
