the raymond roost

Monday, November 19, 2012. Gotcha Day - Day 5. We left Beijing on 11/4 and flew to Zhengzhou. Zhengzhou is the capital of Henan province. We woke up on Monday morning and headed to the local registration office along with 10 other families. We were told that we would be there for 2 1/2 hours and that there wasn't a lot of rhyme or reason as to when you would receive your child. Boy, was that the truth! And then there was Elijah; he just slept through it - ha! Of course I cried. Lucy loved him right away.

the raymond roost: August 2012

http://www.raymondroost.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 12, 2012. More than we could have imagined. Don't you just love it when you know God is trying to tell you something? We've been blessed to experience this recently. Last month my friend, Amber, texted me saying that she was praying Ephesians 3:20 for Elijah. That this may answered by getting Elijah home at sonic speed. ;). It has been amazing to hear from people who know our little guy. Wednesday, August 8, 2012. We were LID (log in date) to China on May 31. Let's just say that waiting do...

the raymond roost: Beijing - Day 1

http://www.raymondroost.blogspot.com/2012/11/beijing-day-1.html

Friday, November 2, 2012. Beijing - Day 1. We woke up somewhere between 1-2 am - jet lag is a beast. We ate at a wonderful, diverse breakfast buffet in our hotel. We joined our group on a tour of a hutong (a traditional quadrangle home in Beijing) and rode in rickshaws. We were able to visit a family and view their home, which was 160 years old. It was interesting to walk through their streets and learn more about their culture. These numbers would tell you about status of the family living inside. It wa...

the raymond roost: July 2011

Sunday, July 24, 2011. Bring glory to God and serve others. He is certainly a servant leader. He isn't perfect, but he's pretty amazing! We are immensely blessed to have him and I thank God for him! We started the day with cinnamon rolls - one of Daddy's favorites! We were excited to have both sets of grandparents with us for Father's Day. This is not something Sven and I take for granted! Sven and his father, Frank. Me and my Daddy. Ending the day reading "Dance Me, Daddy". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

the raymond roost: June 2011

http://www.raymondroost.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Anyone who knows Lily knows that she feels VERY at home on a stage. ;o). I remember years ago as we walked into the sanctuary at church, she thoughtfully and quite seriously asked me, "Mommy, how do I get them to give me one of those microphones? Well this girl loves to dance! This was her third recital and she just loves them. She loves the costumes, the stage, the music - all of it! Her class danced to "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins. We love that movie and that song! Lucy wa...

The Staleys: Random kid quotes I don't want to forget

http://the-staleys.blogspot.com/2011/07/random-kid-quotes-i-dont-want-to-forget.html

Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Random kid quotes I don't want to forget. Elliott, sitting on the toilet before bed but acting disobedient. Tim threatens to spank him if he doesn't stop. Elliott: "You can't. My butt is hidden.". Before bed discussing our sleeping arrangements when we visit my family:. Elliott: Don't leave me in the room alone at Granny's. Me: What if William is there with you? Elliott: No, I need a grown up. Elliott: That's what friends are for. Me: You're my buddy, William. Me: Who is rabbit?

The Staleys: Room by room, function by function

http://the-staleys.blogspot.com/2012/07/room-by-room-function-by-function.html

Monday, July 16, 2012. Room by room, function by function. When I imagine a comfortable home, I think one of that functional and comfortable spaces. I think our house is missing a little of that. I'm going to go room by room and figure out what could make it work better for our family. Again, this is a brainstorm. ROOM ONE: Living room. ROOM TWO: Dining room. FUNCTION: Eating, storing extra plates/dishes, entertaining. What I like: The black table and chairs. The mirror. The walls. What I don't like: All...

The Staleys: October 2009

http://the-staleys.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 22, 2009. William turned two months old last week. We had his well-check this week and found out that he is 14 pounds (90th percentile) and 24 3/4 inches long (97th percentile). He is my mega-baby. He has a nasty case of cradle cap. The pediatrician suggested Selsum Blue, but I am a bit leery of using something so medicinal. I might try some oils first. Whenever one of us brings the baby into the room. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Fidel Castro and the Moment of Departure.

The Staleys: Room by room part duex

http://the-staleys.blogspot.com/2012/07/room-by-room-part-duex.html

Monday, July 16, 2012. Room by room part duex. Let's walk through the rest of my house and decide what needs to be different. What a fun and depressing exercise! What I like: the color scheme. What I dislike: the blank walls, mismatched sconces and mirror. What I can do: hang something up! Change the mirror or the sconces. What I like: Most everything is finished in this room. What I dislike: My dresser drawers aren't organized, nor is my side of the closet. The trash can is too tiny and ugly. Fidel Cast...

The Staleys: Sorting clothes: The brainstorm

http://the-staleys.blogspot.com/2012/07/sorting-clothes-brainstorm.html

Friday, July 13, 2012. Sorting clothes: The brainstorm. With three boys, I have the luxury of passing down a lot of clothes. But with that comes the difficulty of sorting and storing the clothes when they aren't in use. In their closets/dressers, they will need. Elliott: 4T and 5T summer and fall. William: 2T and 3T summer and fall. Henry: Newborn, 3 to 6 months fall and winter. So that means that in the closets, I will need containers marked. For Elliott: Winter 4T/5T. For William: Winter 2T/3T.

Sunday, May 15, 2011. Typing his name, the modern child. Still, it strikes me as sign of the times when your preschool-aged child can peck out his name on the keyboard but can't really write it with a pencil. Maybe he'll text me before he can write me a note . Saturday, May 14, 2011. Things I learned this week. Random things I learned/discussed/wondered about this week:. Have you heard of a yurt? For their sake, I hope it finds its niche. Speaking of the Kentucky Kernel. I can't imagine what that experie...
