Reading the Signs

Life in the slow lane. Sunday, May 11, 2014. Rock Concert (and Other Animals). The inside of Signs Cottage is about to have a white lick of paint. Not so much a facelift as a cheap, damage-limitation makeover. For this reason, and others which I am not yet at liberty to disclose, serious de-cluttering is happening here. And what to do with the toy dog your son brought back from some local fairground, where he either won it at a stall or was given it as a consolation prize? I’ve come to the conclusi...

Reading the Signs: woz ere

http://readingthesigns.blogspot.com/2013/10/woz-ere.html

Life in the slow lane. Tuesday, October 1, 2013. Where else but to the trees are we going to reveal the stuff we dont want to tell anyone else. Trees are like blotting paper, you tell them things and they dont have a solution, they just absorb and remain impartial, and afterwards we feel the better for it. If trees could speak and judge then I might have to find another forest. Beautiful post, beautiful forest. Tuesday, October 01, 2013 10:53:00 PM. Wednesday, October 02, 2013 7:32:00 AM. Reading the Signs: Walls

http://readingthesigns.blogspot.com/2013/09/walls.html

Life in the slow lane. Sunday, September 1, 2013. Thank you so much for this - on walls and the sea both, both of whose solace resonates but only one of which is in reach currently. I love what you say about the family and the happy walls. Here its the first wood burner lighting of the season. Sunday, September 01, 2013 5:46:00 PM. Good to see you, Fire Bird. I feel very lucky to have access to both forest and sea right now, and for the happy walls. Sunday, September 01, 2013 6:45:00 PM. But respectively...

Reading the Signs: June 2013

http://readingthesigns.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Life in the slow lane. Sunday, June 9, 2013. Three Weddings and a Funeral. Is it time for a post? Already Italy seems a distance away – in time, I mean. Obviously it is a distance away from Forest Edge, Blighty, where I now sit looking out at autumn again, which is what we always seem to come back to these days, even in June. In Puglia there was wind too, but there was plentiful blue sky, gelati, cherry trees whose fruit we. Am I talking about food again? It was about being in Elsewhere. Not enough, howe...

http://readingthesigns.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Life in the slow lane. Monday, January 28, 2013. I will arise and go now" ? I sometimes tell the twenty-year-old me: don't choose that because in many years down the line it will niggle at you. You will remember blissful nights singing,. We are stardust, we are golden,. And how it was possible at that time, in that place, to really believe this and the person who said you sounded just like Joni Mitchell. But you will wince every time you remember Innisfree. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. And if I know he is ...

Reading the Signs: Coming of Age

http://readingthesigns.blogspot.com/2008/05/coming-of-age.html

Life in the slow lane. Sunday, May 11, 2008. I have had M.E. for twenty one years. So it is perhaps particularly appropriate for me to write something to mark M.E./CFS International Awareness Day. Labels: light and darkness. I will direct people over here to read this as it says so much of worth. Thank you. Sunday, May 11, 2008 6:03:00 PM. Absolute Vanilla (& Atyllah). I honour and salute you, Signs, and thank you for an excellent, brilliantly written post. You give more insight in this post than I'v...

From the sublime to the ridiculous. Saturday, 4 August 2012. Yes, I was an Olympic cynic. But I bloody love the Olympics. Friday, 22 May 2015. Also, I went to meet other people bereaved by suicide on Wednesday, a small warm group, a space to talk offered as part of a festival of death and dying in our neighbouring town, called Pushing Up Daisies. A marvellous encounter, and the meeting of a need I didn't even know I had. I hope we may meet again. This weekend my brother and my sister will be here. First time we'll all have been together since my Mum's funeral. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

From the sublime to the ridiculous. Thursday, 14 April 2011. They're not just for Easter. Is it just me that believes Cadbury creme eggs were available all year round in the 70s and 80s? They aren't Easter fayre, are they? Do I have false Cadbury's memory syndrome? Links to this post. The gist of it: food and drink. Wednesday, 13 April 2011. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. All I Have To Do Is Dream. A ukelele has arrived in our home! The inspired Christmas gift from L to both of us. It is red and oh so small! The main problem is my hands are quite big and the frets of a ukelele are small. Watch this space to see if I decide I really must get a guitar again after all these years. Tuesday, 23 December 2014. Wednesday, 21 January 2015. About six inches today. It fell and it fell and it fell. We didn't go anywhere. Watched from the window as our car and garden disappeared under soft white curves. And snot, which has hijacked my life for a week now. I will spare you the details. Tissues have been a major part of my life. I can't think or feel properly. Yesterday I thought I was really beginning to recover, but the grade of snot has thickened today (sorry I was sparing you the details wasn't I? Future of my past.
