2013 – The Goal. Newer posts →. May 11, 2013. The MR340 is nearly four days long. In fact, assuming I do it in 70 to 80 hours, it is almost exactly. Spent either in a boat or getting ready to be in a boat. I know it will be strenous, and I know it will be mentally taxing, but mostly I know it will be. Is the layout of my boat correct, or do I need to change anything? How will my hands hold up without gloves? What kind of food should I take? Am I physically ready? Question: What am I doing? The Crews | White Rock Navy

2013 – The Goal. There are few ultra-marathon racers of any kind who can do it alone. We all depend on our ground crews. These are the folks who’ve helped (and are helping) the effort. Elisabeth Flottman – My daughter handled the communications for me during my first race. She was in California but the rest of the crew would call her with progress updates, and she’d post my progress on the blog. Janie the Little Dog – Janie is actually the team mascot. I don’t know why we have a dog that ...Kristy Woodar...

Dispatches | White Rock Navy

2013 – The Goal. Every year before the race Scott Mansker (the moving force behind all this) publishes what he calls his “Dispatches.” These are bit of wisdom for the racers – especially those who’ve never done this kind of thing. They give you a good feel for the race, so I thought I’d post some exerpts here. At this time there are 3 dispatches. As Scott posts more, I’ll plug them here. So, check back once in a while. For many, the 8th Annual MR340 will be a second, third or even eighth(! Miami, mile 26...

2013 – The Goal. 2013 MR340 Race recap. Next Post →. Captain Ned – Retired. August 1, 2013. I guess I’m not the only fool out there. So, this is it. Captain Ned is officially retiring from ultra-marathon kayaking. Now it’s time to use the kayak in the way I originally planned. I’ll take it out on the local lakes, maybe out on some rivers for some weekend floating. The only racing I’m planning will be one day events. Captain Ned, WRN Retired. This entry was posted in Canoe. 2013 MR340 Race recap. That bei...

2013 – The Goal. 2013 – The Goal. First is to help spread the word. For that, I’ll need you to register for updates to this blog and/or “like” our Facebook page at http:/ www.facebook.com/WhiteRockNavy. These two will keep you on top of what we’re doing. Then I need you to pass the word along to as many people as possible. This won’t happen without a lot of people reading the blog and the Facebook page. Perhaps the most important thing you can do, though, is to say some regular prayers for this whole eff...
