Rebecca in the World

Monday, May 26, 2008. I spent 16 days in fancy resorts in Mexico with my friend Ryan who is a private investigator of hospitality. While he worked, I tanned. It was an experience that was both exactly what I expected and completely surprising. I had anticipated being pampered and feeling strange about it, but I hadn't expected the level of luxury or the deep deep feelings that I would have. It was interesting to be there with Ryan, who is a wonderful person and friend with whom I share absolutely nothing...

Rebecca in the World: February 2007

http://www.rebeccakeegan.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 28, 2007. NOTE: Read this for the quick synopsis. I will be adding longer essays on Rome, Naples and Pompei in a few days! Winter vacation was a wonderful two week voyage in Spain and Italy! I went with my friend Emily to Girona, Spain and then Rome, Naples, and Salerno. Along our way, we visited the Dali Museum in Figures, the ruins of Pompei, and the Amalfi Coast. Figueres, Spain: The Dali Museum. Please see “When in Rome”. Naples, Italy (includes Pompei). Monday, June 25, 2007. I don't really know what to say, other than this has been an incredible and important experience and meaningful to me on so many levels. I will miss this town so much, my friends and community, my favorite cafes and bars, the view of la cite from le pont vieux, Arnaud's shy smile. Thank you for sharing in this adventure with me. Sunday, February 10, 2008. In support of artists everywhere. Art keeps us alive. So, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, Love, and Human Nature, I would like to invite everyone to check out my brilliant mother's latest creation- The Balance Deck. This is a 72-card art deck of Catie's original artwork and writing about the human condition and the balancing act we do daily. The deck can be used a number of ways, and is a wonderful tool for self-exploration and a fun way to get a group of people to open up.

Rebecca in the World: December 2007

http://www.rebeccakeegan.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 14, 2007. Long time, no writing. If anyone is still checking my blog, they will have noticed that I have not written in quite a long time! I guess it's been a rough season. Lots of ups and downs, and things I never expected. But, it feels like, hopefully, it's starting to normalize a bit. I feel like things are starting to balance out now, and I'm feeling better about being in Ashland, and trying to use the time well. Thanks for reading if you are; I'll try to post more regularly!

PortlandiaQuill: January 2008

http://portlandiaquill.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

RECENT THOUGHTS FROM A PORTLAND EX-PAT IN IDAHO. Thursday, January 17, 2008. Writing family narrative is more difficult than it seems. At first blush, writing family narrative should be easy. It's confessional, it's personal, and it's a topic that's close to your heart. What to tell and what not to tell, how long to keep it and how short to make it all end up cramping things a little. Especially when it's written for a class. But it feels a little like secondary school, you know? On a pessimistic note, i...

RECENT THOUGHTS FROM A PORTLAND EX-PAT IN IDAHO. Thursday, June 3, 2010. As most of you well know, I was recently kidnapped in London and held hostage for an e-mail ransom. The result of this adventure was the unfortunate deletion of my old e-mail addresses, ariel.holman@gmail.com, the one tied to this blog, being one of them. We have many wonderful things to share - including a marching marmot, and pictures and stories from our trip out to Grand Teton National Park. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Celestial Knits: My Destash, Your Gain!

http://celestialknits.blogspot.com/2007/08/my-destash-your-gain.html

A PDX tricoteuse's knitterly misadventures. Wednesday, August 22, 2007. My Destash, Your Gain! In need of some Cascade 220 Superwash? And buy nine skeins of it! I'll be sad to see it go - it would h. Ave made a lovely Boatneck Bluebell. But since my knitting queueueueueue has about 10 projects ahead of it, I have to let it go. Plus, it's one less thing to move into our new house. EEEEEEEEEEEE! Did I mention that part? Now, doesn't that sound fancy? But he's still so darn cute. View my complete profile.

RECENT THOUGHTS FROM A PORTLAND EX-PAT IN IDAHO. Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Because we've had a couple phone calls. No, we were not anywhere near the fire that ripped through the SE Boise suburbs. On Monday night. It was pretty awful, though. Nine houses were destroyed, and another one was damaged. A very popular linguistics and English professor at Boise State University was killed. In other news, I found out today that I type 77 words per minute! I'm impressed with myself. Goooooo TEAM! Other, other n...

RECENT THOUGHTS FROM A PORTLAND EX-PAT IN IDAHO. Monday, September 8, 2008. Hot, but not like burn-down-the-neighborhood hot. So, if you're following things on Twitter, you know that I made some outstanding brownies yesterday. I've been on a roll when it comes to cooking this weekend, in fact. But as good as everything has been, these brownies take the cake. I got the recipe from my new favorite cooking blog, SmittenKitchen. What makes them so good? The slow, subtle chipotle burn. Then, last night, knowi...

PortlandiaQuill: Little things.

http://portlandiaquill.blogspot.com/2009/12/little-things.html

RECENT THOUGHTS FROM A PORTLAND EX-PAT IN IDAHO. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. We squabbled a little last night over whether it was a good idea for Charlie to ride his bike to work tomorrow (a couple inches of snow on the ground, slick roads, cold temps). I made him promise to ride his bike on the sidewalk if he did (no shoulder or room for cars to manuver around him was my thinking.). He reluctantly agreed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I had a lovely lengthy update written but it's all disappeared so I'm now going to leave you to make up the story yourself using the following pictures! This is called interactive blogging. I'll give you names and a few hints. Me, Charlotte and Celia (2 good friends from Carcassonne who I flew to Brussels with) enjoying Belgian beer and hot chocolate. Once back w...

http://somethingsinteresting.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

The following events are entirely factual and take place in and around the south-west of France. Monday, January 29, 2007. Hussies, monks and THE box. On Sunday English Emily and I went touring around the countryside with one of her teachers and stumbled across a beautiful monastery right in the middle of nowhere - which was where Em took this photo of me playing in the snow like a little kid. The teacher's wife finally asked me if I'd never seen snow before since I was enjoying it so much! Marcel took i...

http://somethingsinteresting.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

The following events are entirely factual and take place in and around the south-west of France. Monday, August 27, 2007. A mere 29 day hiatus. There are no excuses for being so slack - mostly with each passing day the thought of recounting all the stories of the past 2 months here in the US of A and trying to choose just a handful of photos to accompany has been too daunting, but putting it off doesn't make the task any more surmountable. Kath standing in the shade of a Joshua Tree out in the desert eas...
