Jisc's Access and Identity Management Programme. Recently announced the next stage in the collaborative work on Shibboleth. Both these technologies are the building blocks in the provision of existing and future access and identity management services. Shibboleth is the most popular software in use within the UK federation. Shibboleth is developed by the Shibboleth Consortium. Supported by Internet2, JISC and SWITCH. Traditional credential authorities issue long-term credentials to end-entities who will themselves posses and control their key pair and their activation data. These authorities act as an independent trusted third party for both subscribers and relying parties within the infrastructure.
