Reforming Gary: Please Accept this little Parting Gift and Thanks for Playing the Game
http://reforminggary.blogspot.com/2012/12/please-accept-this-little-parting-gift.html
Observations and Thoughts of a Presbyterian Pastor. Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Please Accept this little Parting Gift and Thanks for Playing the Game. Back to the packet from the Board of Pensions: When I sent for it, I learned from a very competent sounding young woman on the phone that I am required to declare a date certain for retirement. I said, “Couldn’t we leave that date open ended? When are you retiring? I don’t know. I don’t know. Where will you live after retirement? I don’t know. Gary, your ...

Reforming Gary: Yes, Doctrine Divides
http://reforminggary.blogspot.com/2013/05/yes-doctrine-divides.html
Observations and Thoughts of a Presbyterian Pastor. Saturday, May 4, 2013. Yes, Doctrine Divides. 2 Timothy 2:1-7 (NKJV). You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this. The Scriptures themselves claim a divine so...

Reforming Gary: Seeing with Poor Vision
http://reforminggary.blogspot.com/2013/05/seeing-with-poor-vision.html
Observations and Thoughts of a Presbyterian Pastor. Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Seeing with Poor Vision. Doors for service in the PC(USA) were loudly closing. I have, since then, received one request from a PC(USA) to fill the pulpit for him while he was out of town. I have also preached in a United Methodist Church as a fill in for the vacationing pastor. I have practiced. While it is 90% identical, there is this element of preparing a congregation to meet their next pastor. Read My Daily Meditations. In ou...

Reforming Gary: A Political Gambit for Presbyterian Women
http://reforminggary.blogspot.com/2011/09/political-gambit-for-presbyterian-women.html
Observations and Thoughts of a Presbyterian Pastor. Wednesday, September 14, 2011. A Political Gambit for Presbyterian Women. What is her plan for salvation? Is it for all the women in the Presbyterian Women’s organization to take a vow of poverty? I just read a wonderful phrase on the Simon Wiesenthal Center website to describe the action of a General Assembly committee as "a political gambit wrapped in theological garb.” This is precisely what this Bible Study is. This has been a problem for many years.

Reforming Gary: A Man of Restless Leisure
http://reforminggary.blogspot.com/2014/06/a-man-of-restless-leisure.html
Observations and Thoughts of a Presbyterian Pastor. Monday, June 9, 2014. A Man of Restless Leisure. It has been a year since I posted anything in this blog. I retired from the PC(USA) and, by default, I retired from writing in this blog. This past year has been depressing, restful, and spiritually enriching. Perhaps a good structure for this post would be to try to explain what I mean by those three terms. I am so distressed by how the PCUSA has treated you. It reflects very badly on us. 1 Cor 9:20 - 23...

Reforming Gary: God's Child Trembles
http://reforminggary.blogspot.com/2013/02/gods-child-trembles.html
Observations and Thoughts of a Presbyterian Pastor. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. You will keep him. In perfect peace, Whose. Stayed on You,. Because he trusts in You. Anne Steele (1716-1778) could have written these words yesterday. It is so true that the Christian heart is not governed by time. We are as all Christians were. They have experienced all our anxieties and joys. If pain and sickness rend this frame. And life almost depart. Is not Thy mercy still the same. To cheer my drooping heart. Since the...
