Web requests in F# now easy! Introducing Http.fs | Relentless Development

https://relentlessdevelopment.wordpress.com/2013/11/15/web-requests-in-f-now-easy-introducing-http-fs

Keeping up with software developments using .Net. Web requests in F# now easy! Web requests in F# now easy! November 15, 2013. I’ve made a module which makes HTTP calls (like downloading a web page) easy, available now on GitHub – Http.fs. I had a project recently which involved making a lot of HTTP requests and dealing with the responses. F# being my current language of choice, I was using that. Unfortunately, .Net’s HttpWebRequest. Aren’t that nice to use from F# (or C#, frankly). In fact there are man...

Keeping up with software developments using .Net. F# Koans – Stock Example. March 31, 2013. The other day, we started doing the F# Koans. As a way of of trying out the language, with the aim of expanding our minds with some functional programming. A bit like coder’s LSD, if you will. The koans are pretty good at introducing you to things, although initially it’s a bit too easy to get through them without really understanding what’s going on. March 29, 2011. Keeping up with software developments using .Net. These are the development-related books I’ve read in recent times (some of them only tenuously related, I’ll admit! Keeping up with software developments using .Net. Making a simple State Machine with F# Actors. Making a simple State Machine with F# Actors. July 30, 2013. F# comes with a built-in Actor. Framework, using the MailboxProcessor class. The main reason for using actors is to simplify concurrent processing, but they also hit another sweet spot – they’re pretty good for implementing Finite State Machines (FSM). August 27, 2014. So yes, it’s been about six months since I last blogged. I didn’t intend it that way but I’ve been pretty busy. You probably don’t want to hear me bragging on about career stuff ( that’s what LinkedIn is for, right? But the short version is – promotion, leading on a major project using Hadoop, Linux and Python, blah blah blah. Things have eased up just a little now so I’m looking forward to putting some more technical stuff up on here shortly, possibly even this week. On My Next Step.

Newer posts →. The Obligatory “I’m Trying Neo4j” Post (Part 1). December 16, 2013. I remember reading someone (more-or-less-jokingly) suggesting that all blog software should come with a default first post entitled “I’m Trying Linux”. That was a few years ago though, and while open-source operating systems are still a topic of interest. The big buzz amongst cutting-edge nerds. In the last couple of years has of course been around NoSQL databases. Express an interest and noticed a post on the topic. Just ...

Talking To The Graph (“Obligatory Neo4j” Part 3). January 17, 2014. This is my third post on the popular open-source graph database Neo4j, and I’ll be taking a look at APIs. To see the full series, you can check out the Neo4j tag on this blog – alexdgarland.com/category/neo4j/. First of all, a quick reminder of our “set text”, the Graph Databases e-book from O’Reilly and Neo Technology. Free, concise, full of useful info – what’s not to like? Sorry, what’s that? Which (as you would expect) can be called ...

Nathan's thoughts: NUnit templates for ASP.NET MVC 2 RC 2

http://shiften.blogspot.com/2010/02/nunit-templates-for-aspnet-mvc-2-rc-2.html

Sunday, February 28, 2010. NUnit templates for ASP.NET MVC 2 RC 2. Now with ASP.Net MVC 2 RC 2 out. It's time to have a working NUnit. Were a start, however, I took it a step further and synchronized most of the template code with the MVC 2 template code. This gave me a really good result and is really quite workable. Try it for yourself. Get started with the following instructions:. Download the zip file: Mvc.NUnit.Testsv2.0.zip. Once that is done, the template should be ready to use. Works great, thanks.

https://alexdgarland.com/2013/12/28/obligatory-neo4j-2

Graph Data Modelling (“Obligatory Neo4j” Part 2). December 28, 2013. First of all – a quick “thank you” to the guys at Neo Technology and anyone else who commented on/ retweeted my last post. It feels like there’s a friendly community around Neo4j and – let’s be honest – that’s as important as the software itself. As they are published. Throughout, I’ll likely refer to the e-book “Graph Databases”, available for free here. Much more like the same thing. They also argue that performance considerations pus...
