To recreate the original arcade look, the cabinet needs the correct Q*bert graphics. I ordered the sideart, marquee and control panel overlay from classicarcadegrafix.com. Which was the only shop i was able to find that had everything i needed. It took them about 2 weeks to ship the parts from the US to germany. Invoice and installation instructions where missing, but everything else was ok. Next: installation of the vinyl sideart. Msp*cman(26.11.2006 10:58).

The cab is a reproduction of a Q*bert. Machine build in 1982. I took the measures from jakobud.com. I don't try to make the Q*bert machine an exact copy of the original, so i planned to do some variations:. Interchangeable control panels. In addition to the Q*bert panel with only one 4-way joystick, there will be one with to joysticks for two player action and one with a keyboard and trackball for configuration and pc-games. like Chromium. For easier transportation, all parts can be disassembled.

I'm going to set up the arcade machine in my office which is on the second floor. Unfortunately the cabinet is too big and too heavy to be carried through the staircase in one piece. Thats why all connections are screwed instead of glued together. After bringing all parts from the workshop to my office, i start assembling the cabinet. The first parts i fasten to the side are the base and the top. The picture above shows the strips of wood i used as a padding to protect the painting from scratches.

There are different monitors to choose from:. A real arcade monitor. The arcade monitor is the option which generates the most original arcade feeling. Natürlich dürfen bei meinem Q*bert Nachbau die Originalgrafiken nicht fehlen. Deshalb habe ich die Aufkleber für die Seiten, das von hinten beleuchtete Marquee und die Auflagen fürs Controlpanel bei classicarcadegrafix.com. Bestellt. Ich habe mich für diesen Onlineshop entschieden weil es der einzige war den ich gefunden habe, der alle Teile liefern konnte. Nach gut 2 Wochen waren die Teile dann hier. Rechnung und Montageanleitung fehlten bei der Lieferung, ansonsten ist eigentlich alles in Ordnung.

In der Planungsphase habe ich mir ein Controlpanel zum Testen gebaut. Als Schnittstelle zwischen den Bedienelementen wie Joysticks, Buttons und Tastatur und dem Computer benutze ich ein I-Pac² von Ultimarc.com. Ich werde es später mal ausprobieren, erstmal reichen mir die vorkonfigurierten Buttons zum testen. Hier sieht man die Verkabelung des ersten Spielers. Bisher ist nur das Massekabel angeschlossen. Der Korpus ist ein Nachbau eines Q*bert. Automaten von 1982. Die Maße stammen von jakobud.com. Da mein Q*bert kein originalgetreuer Nachbau werden soll, habe ich noch einige Abweichungen vom Vorbild eingeplant:. Das Controlpanel wird austauschbar. Neben der Q*bert-Variante mit nur einem Joystick wird es noch ein Controlpanel mit zwei Joysticks und eins mit einer Tastatur und einem Trackball geben. Weil ich den Arcadeautomat in meinem Büro im 1. Stockwerk aufstelle und er im Ganzen schlecht durchs Treppenhaus passt, habe ich alle Verbindungen geschraubt statt verleimt. Nachdem ich also alle Einzelteile nach oben geschleppt habe, mache ich mich ans Zusammenbauen. Der Korpus wird auf der Seite liegend montiert. Auf dem Bild kann man gut die Schlitze für die Flachdübel erkennen. Sie stellen sicher das alle Teile vor dem Verschrauben passend plaziert sind. Weiter geht es mit dem Einbau der Scheibe.
