This Day in Jazz History: MAY 24
http://thisdayinjazzhistory.blogspot.com/2012/05/may-24.html
This Day in Jazz History. Jazz Recorded on This Day in History. May 24, 1957. Review by Scott Yanow. Pianist Red Garland's fourth recording as a leader had often eluded reissue until this 1998 CD was released. Garland is teamed up with bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Art Taylor and (on "Four" and "Walkin'") guest guitarist Kenny Burrell. Garland plays in his distinctive style consistently throughout Red Garland Revisited! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Smithsonian Day in Jazz History. This Day in Jazz.

This Day in Jazz History: February 2011

This Day in Jazz History. Jazz Recorded on This Day in History. Pleyel Jazz Concert 1948. February 28, 1948. Review by by Scott Yanow. A superior live concert by the 1948 Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, this LP is highlighted by a lengthy version of "'Round Midnight," "Two Bass Hit," "The Afro Cuban Suite" and "Things to Come." Every recording by this shortlived but memorable orchestra (the most innovative big band of 1946-49) is worth acquiring. Dizzy Gillespie TP, Vo. Big Nick Nicholas TS. February 27, 1962.
