Northern California Flute Circle: NAF Playing Tip #7: Flutter Tonguing
http://naflute.blogspot.com/2006/01/naf-playing-tip-7-flutter-tonguing.html
Thursday, January 19, 2006. NAF Playing Tip #7: Flutter Tonguing. NOTE: I have discovered that this technique is very difficult or even impossible for some adults to learn. The key being that if you didn’t learn to “roll your R’s” or make the “motorboat” sound with your tongue early in life, it may not be physiologically possible for you to learn this technique as an adult. Anecdotally, somewhere around 20% of my students can’t do this. This Playing Tip is licensed under a. Enter your email address:.

Thursday, September 29, 2005. NAF Playing Tip #2: Cover holes with finger pads. It is important to make sure to completely cover the holes of the flute with your finger pads, not your fingertips. You type on a keyboard and play the piano with your fingertips, but this is poor flute playing technique. You should cover the finger hole with the “meaty” part of your finger pad. Try this simple test to see if you are covering the holes correctly:. Cover all of the holes of the flute with the correct fingers.

It’s important to realize that when playing with a guitar, the guitar must tune to the flute that you are playing, since it is impossible to “tune” a Native American Flute. What’s the old saying? You can tune a piano but you can’t tuna fish- or a Native American Flute for that matter). Guitar Minor Pentatonic Scale. Figure 1 - The Minor Pentatonic Scale for Guitar. Thursday, December 08, 2005. NAF Playing Tip #5: A Note’s Life. Before we can talk about ornamentation, it’s important to understand the dynamics of a note as it comes out of the flute. Starting from this point will allow us to better understand how the various ornamentation techniques work to modify the life of a note. This period is from the point at which you start blowing until the note reaches full volume. The middle part of the note’s life is called the Sustain. Figure 1 - Life of a Note (Envelope).
