Going with the flow

Going with the flow. Thursday, 29 January 2015. My last session was again on the wonderful Wye, I arrived just before dawn with a plan of fishing as the first rays of light for the day were popping over the horizon, the river levels showed that a pulse of water had raised the level on the Saturday, I hope that it had peaked and started to drop for my Sunday session. Another twenty minutes and there were signs on the bung that I had another interested customer, I struck into the fish and again a fight in ...

Going with the flow: March 2014

http://riveranglersgowiththeflow.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Going with the flow. Thursday, 27 March 2014. Deserted hail battered swim. The impending ice balls cleared and we were free to fish, I caught a reasonable Roach about a pound quickly followed by a slightly smaller Perch, the Perch (and all others caught on the day) were as fat as footballs, obviously they hadn't spawned just yet, I had wondered with the mild weather and thought that they would have done so but it seemed not on this water. Tuesday, 18 March 2014. Curtain call on the Wye. The second cast w...

Going with the flow: Lazy Sunday morning

http://riveranglersgowiththeflow.blogspot.com/2014/04/lazy-sunday-morning.html

Going with the flow. Thursday, 24 April 2014. I had ventured out for Tench, I had ventured out using drop shotting gear, I had ventured out float fishing for anything that swims, none of the aforementioned sessions were very productive, April is a difficult time of year and things were looking grim, enthusiasm was ebbing. On walking around the venue I came across a fellow Blogger, Mick Newey of http:/ calamitymn.blogspot.co.uk/. Quite a few of the venues Carp population were noted sunning themselves in a...

Going with the flow: February 2014

http://riveranglersgowiththeflow.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Going with the flow. Thursday, 27 February 2014. Trout reservoir Piking, not as easy as it looks. My boat partner had tickets booked the previous two Saturdays but alas the recent weather saw the days cancelled so we had no idea how the old esox were feeling and where they maybe residing, so a blank canvas was what we were starting on, no change there then. Sunday, 2 February 2014. It seems that spring has sprung, January passed with me only wetting a line once and that was a fruitless session on a local...

Going with the flow: September 2013

http://riveranglersgowiththeflow.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Going with the flow. Sunday, 29 September 2013. I had an afternoon pass out so plans were made to visit my local stretch of the Upper Warks Avon in search of Perch. It was the first time I had visited this season and the undergrowth was very heavy considering it was the end of September, more like June 16th. Sunday, 15 September 2013. Not a lot to tell. I have found it quite frustrating on the Barbel front this season, fishing sessions across several rivers since June 16th and I haven't really found my g...

Short session angler.: Rationale

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/p/why-short-sessions.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Why Short session angler? The main thrust of my fishing is about getting out of the house quickly when an opportunity arises and making the most of limited time! Ike many anglers I have a full time job and a young family so lengthy sessions are often difficult to undertake. As such I have become pretty adept at getting out fishing in double quick time. To make it work I always have a rod (or rods) banded and ready to go fishing with. And ended up staying home.

Short session angler.: Surprise in the snow

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2013/01/surprise-in-snow.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Monday, 21 January 2013. Surprise in the snow. A day on the river during or just after snow is always special, if the chub show up it's even better still. This time they didn't, but something else did. I arrived at the river to find the above scene, real picture postcard stuff. It was a really lovely day, dead still, a few fresh tiny flakes falling now and then but by and large, the snow in many areas hadn't been disturbed. Cooked 'live' on the teppanyaki grill.

Short session angler.: A Year in Provence...

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2014/06/a-year-in-provence.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Sunday, 22 June 2014. A Year in Provence. Well not quite, but I may as well have been considering the number of times I've been out this last year! Into the new year and a dabble into the world of ultralight fishing gave me something a little different and I managed to scrape a few perch out of the canal in Stoke. On the rivers, aside from one decent severn chub of 5.2 there was next to nothing to write home about. Thankfully the "This does not * * ing slip" com...

Short session angler.: First in a while.

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2012/11/first-in-while.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Saturday, 24 November 2012. First in a while. The predicted rain arrived as I was leaving so I took a brolly and decided to stay in one spot effectively putting all my eggs in one basket. I picked the same area I fished with our Pest last week as conditions weren't that different in terms of level and colour. Labels: Chub (short session). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Short session angler.: Roll on Autumn

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2013/07/roll-on-autumn.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Tuesday, 2 July 2013. I’ve just remembered I have a blog. The problem is I’ve not got too much to say when I’m not particularly catching much, and I haven't been. May arrived and I persevered with the mere, though single figure temps, seemingly day after day quelled my enthusiasm for tench fishing. A few dawn sessions gave me little but one bright afternoon I caught a 3lb’er, which was a start but nothing in comparison to previous years. Camera shy scraper 5.

Short session angler.: Up and Down

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2012/12/up-and-down.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Sunday, 16 December 2012. According to the EA river level site, the local river has been in the ‘flooding is possible’ zone four times in the last three weeks. In between these peaks, the same site has also shown several other smaller spikes which have taken the level to the very extreme (high) end of what the EA call ‘typical range’ but which to the angler is still a very high level. The temperature gauge in the car said plus 7 degrees Celsius however I arrived...

Short session angler.: Three PBs in 24 hours

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2012/11/three-pbs-in-24-hours.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Saturday, 17 November 2012. Three PBs in 24 hours. A planned trip to the Dove saw me and Hannibal arrive at 10.30. The plan was to bounce around a few swims near the car park, eat at the car and then make our way downstream for the afternoon, it being some considerable hike to the extreme downstream limit. Just before dark then settled into a big bay right on a sharp bend for the last hour or so. We gave it a few casts but it just didn't. Saturday. I'd been ...

Short session angler.: Meff Tea

http://shortsessionangler.blogspot.com/2012/12/meff-tea.html

You'll catch * * all sat in the 'ouse lad! Thursday, 6 December 2012. A little late with the write up but I managed to get back to the Dove last Saturday. EA river levels said it was somewhere in the middle of what we would deem normal, so off I set arriving at the river 12.30 midday-ish. The fields had large areas that were still underwater, thankfully though the ground had been frozen so the mud/wet wasn't as bad as it could have been. There was not a lot doing it had to be said. It was cold too, v...

Sunday, 8 March 2015. River Nene, Stibbington - 5 March 2015. After a quick look I decide to sit just above the bridge as this was by far the most protected from the wind. My Office for the day. Tuesday, 17 February 2015. River Welland Stamford 15th Feb.
