Open Knowledge Maps - A visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge
http://openknowledgemaps.org/news.php
A visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge. A BIG THANK YOU to our community! Great things have happened following our launch of the DOAJ and PubMed integrations. We saw a broad coverage on the web, including an appearance on the Reddit front page in early November and an article in c't magazine. More than 44,000 people visited Open Knowledge Maps in November, and almost 25,000 maps have been created to date. PubMed and DOAJ integration is here! Try it out now. We will demonstrate how you can...

Biodiversity Informatics, Citizens' Science and Open Source. Creating figures like the paper ‘Completeness of Digital Accessible Knowledge of Plants of Ghana’ Part 3. This is the third part of the of the post where we are replicating the figures from a paper and in this part we are going to create figure 2 the Chronohorogram. Part 2. Of this series we created temporal plot for understanding seasonality of the data records (Figure 1b). If you have not already done so, please follow steps in Part 1. Total ...

Biodiversity Informatics, Citizens' Science and Open Source. Creating figures like the paper ‘Completeness of Digital Accessible Knowledge of Plants of Ghana’ Part 1. Recently I got to read the paper about Completeness of Digital Accessible Knowledge DAK by Alex Asase and A. Townsend Peterson. I really enjoyed reading the paper and liked the way the figures are presented. There is a lot of overlap of this with my work on package bdvis. I decided to use Birds data for India. Asase, Alex, and A Townsend Pe...

I found a great dune paper, but too late. There it was. The last figure in Ritchie and Penland (1988). A conceptual model for coastal dune development on barrier islands subject to storms. It is the figure I was looking for in 2015 when I wrote a paper. On coastal dunes I just found it one year too late. Here is the figure from Ritchie and Penland (1988). Now to my own figure in Goldstein and Moore (2016). And for other earth scientists since so many papers are published. March 7, 2017. Last semester I t...

http://ropengov.github.io/about
Is a loose community of R. Package developers working on open government data, computational social sciences, digital humanities. A number of independent authors have contributed projects. On our github site, and we maintain the rOpenGov blog. Also listed in R-bloggers. The focus is on data analytics and peer support, rather than package maintenance (which is much better handled by the rOpenSci. The core team that maintains this website and the github organization includes Leo Lahti.

Landscape Ecology 2.0. Intersecting landscape ecology, open science, and R. Rstudio and makefiles: Mind your options! I have written this post mostly for myself. I don’t want to waste 2 hours on this problem again at some point in the future. Hopefully others might stumble on it too and save some aggravation. Here’s the makefile like the one I created:. Or so I thought. I sauntered on over to my terminal window, and confidently type. This entry was posted in Open Science. February 14, 2014. SPARROW Lake ...
