A Montrealer's birding adventures in Korea and beyond. Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Pioneering trip to Geomun-do, April 11-12, 2015. Vomit, life-vests, and clenched fists - worst boat trip ever. Towards the southern tip. Land bridge to the lighthouse. Interesting habitat on the smallest of the islands. Above the main village. Two hours southish of nearby Yeosu, o. N roughly the same latitude as Chuja-do and the glorious Gageo-do,. And a good mix of finches were also on the move through Geomun-do. 8211; seen ...

Ayuwat Jearwattanakanok: Colourful Birds!
http://ayuwat.blogspot.com/2013/09/colourful-birds.html
Monday, 16 September 2013. These photos were taken on September 1st at Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai. We first stopped at the second check-point early in the morning. There were actually fewer birds than I expected. A pair of Stripe-breasted Woodpeckers. Were seen perching and calling from distant treetops. Some Grey-cheeked Fulvettas and Chestnut-vented Nuthatches. See an insect inside its mouth? Stunning male Short-billed Minivet. An equally stunning female. Even though not a rare bird, there is hardly any ...

Hakodate Birding: North Hokkaido 2015 #1
http://blog.hakodatebirding.com/2015/07/north-hokkaido-2015-1.html
North Hokkaido 2015 #1. We just got back from a week camping in north Hokkaido. The first 2 days were a bit of a non event birdwise, Day 1 was spent driving right up to the north of Hokkaido and day 2 was cold, wet and very windy. It was so bad that we gave up using a tent for the first couple of days and rented a bunglaow instead. Very dark and very windy, tricky for photos. The rain eventually stopped and it started singing. I can't get enough of this species. 14 July 2015 at 12:06:00 GMT 9. Hi Russell...

Hakodate Birding: North Hokkaido 2015 #4
http://blog.hakodatebirding.com/2015/07/north-hokkaido-2015-4.html
North Hokkaido 2015 #4. We left Monbetsu and headed north. My wife wanted a nap so we stopped off at one of the capes on the way. Of course there was another pair of Siberian Rubythroats there. They were busy bringing food back to the nest. The male then started singing on the fence around the edge of the car park. Wood Sandpipers. What were they doing in Hokkaido in early July? AFAIK they don't breed this far south. They couldn't have bred in Siberia already surely? 17 July 2015 at 19:15:00 GMT 9. Canon...

Hakodate Birding: The Birding Year
http://blog.hakodatebirding.com/p/birding-year.html
This is not definitive by any means but I hope it will give you a flavour of the area. All photos are my own and were taken in southwest Hokkaido; in and around Hakodate, in and around Onuma, Yakumo and Oshamanbe. The early part of the year is dominated by the eagles a up at Yakumo, they are most active and approachable at this time due to the river levels dropping and allowing the eagles to get at the salmon carcasses. Other ducks include Common Goldeneye, Great Scaup, Black Scoter, White Winged Scoter ...

Hakodate Birding: North Hokkaido 2015 #5
http://blog.hakodatebirding.com/2015/07/north-hokkaido-2015-5.html
North Hokkaido 2015 #5. A Yellow Wagtail near Wakanai last week. Before the trip I had 3 target species to add to my Japan list. The nasty weather at the start of the week put paid to looking for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker but I still had hopes for the other 2. That dot in the middle is a male Yellow Breasted Bunting in Sarobetsu. This is already a heavy crop, it was a long long way away. Anyway, a lifer and #283 on my J-list. A Lanceolated Warbler, another lifer and #284. 17 July 2015 at 18:43:00 GMT 9.
