Landscape and Wildlife in the Hinterland
Crowlink – Seaford | Birding Walks in RXland
https://rxbirdwalks.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/crowlink-seaford
Birding Walks in RXland. Landscape and Wildlife in the Hinterland. Laquo; Holiday weather. Crowlink – Seaford. Between Crowlink and the Cuckmere, we met no-one at all; perhaps they were all keeping indoors on account of the Killer Seagulls reported every day in the Daily Gullible. We didn’t see a lot of birds either, in spite of early promise at the crassula-fringed Crowlink Dew Pond, which was alive with drinking Linnets, Whitethroats, Stonechats. And a Corn Bunting. Killer Gulls, yes, and Killer Ravens.
TURTLE DOVE! | Birding Walks in RXland
https://rxbirdwalks.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/turtle-dove
Birding Walks in RXland. Landscape and Wildlife in the Hinterland. Laquo; Garden birds. Cadborough Cliff is pretty quiet now, apart from full-throated Wrens. And a few lacklustre Chiffchaffs. But there are plenty of birds in the scrub, most visibly flitting about in skeleton Elders where families of Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Linnet and Goldfinch. Are joined by the odd Robin, Dunnock, Lesser Whitethroat and Sedge Warbler. Here it is: a Shot that is Beyond Record. This was at a site where I last r...

Birding Walks in RXland. Landscape and Wildlife in the Hinterland. On July 9, 2016 by cliffdean. The plan was to start in Brookland, cut across to the Woolpack and strike south from there, through Little Cheyne to Lower Agney, from there north-east to Hawthorn Corner. It was thought that this route would be more “interesting” than one which went through the mediaeval grid of lanes north of the village. Mute Swan with a “Polish” cygnet at Woolpack Bridge. The old meadows were full of Skylarks. Watched fro...
Today’s one-hour walk | Birding Walks in RXland

Birding Walks in RXland. Landscape and Wildlife in the Hinterland. Laquo; Marsh crops. Today’s one-hour walk. 8230;it got a bit stretched once I noticed a Red Kite. Circling over trees at the back of the marsh. There were two birds to start with but one dropped down too quickly to identify and thereafter up to 7 Buzzards. Were cruising over the treetops, a Kestrel. And adult f Marsh Harrier. Apart from that, the first Grey Plover. Summer-plumage) and 2 Willow Warblers. Of the autumn as well as a Wheatear.
Plucking post | Birding Walks in RXland
https://rxbirdwalks.wordpress.com/2015/08/04/plucking-post
Birding Walks in RXland. Landscape and Wildlife in the Hinterland. Laquo; TURTLE DOVE! Plant zonation of green, rust and buff emphasises but softens with curves the severe ditch geometry of intersecting diagonals. The basic elements of gate post characters – growth-rings, knot-holes, grain, stains, splits, lichen and droppings – occur in endless permutation. Not much new in the bird line: a few Swallows. Passing by, a Marsh Harrier. Floating past a blue cattle-truck, a distant Green Sandpiper. Enter your...

Freshwinds Garden: Little House Garden
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/little-house-garden.html
Saturday, 15 August 2015. Last year we created a garden leading down to the little house. I have checked on it a couple of times since then. I was quite disappointed late last year to find the sheep and rabbits had done their damage. But I can now reveal which plants have made it through. If you remember, we chose what were considered to be rabbit-proof plants. We had some left-over geraniums so after a weeding, I planted them up. These plants are so far rabbit proof. A couple of different views. In the ...
Freshwinds Garden: June 2015
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Dirty fingernails and nettle-stung ankles.I must be home. I have made three visits to the garden since we came back, but today, I got a really good surprise. It has been a baking hot day with temperatures in 30`s. The polytunnel was like an oven. I had to have breaks from working in there. But I was determined to sort out the melons. I read up about melon growing as I haven`t done it for some time. I had to untangle the growth and choose 2 or 3 shoots and tie them to stakes. Oleand...
Freshwinds Garden: Rolling Stones Part 2 of 3
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2013/07/rolling-stones-part-2-of-3.html
Wednesday, 17 July 2013. Rolling Stones Part 2 of 3. The concert was in Hyde Park. It was the last of their 50 and Counting tour. Huge screens were set up in several places and the back of the stage was also a huge triple screen. Around the entrance there was a funfair with a ferris wheel and helter skelter and numerous food and t.shirt stalls. We made our way right through until we could see the stage .in the far distance.but close enough to a big screen. Everyone was on their feet by this time. Charlie...
Freshwinds Garden: February 2015
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 February 2015. The weather for the last two days has been so lovely. really spring-like and warm .such a feeling of joy to be outside enjoying it. Yesterday we visited the garden with our nephew, Frazer who enjoyed seeing all the animals. Today we went to work and work we did. Tim was out and about on the quad bike and gave us a cheery wave as he checked on the sheep. He also transferred the artichokes to a better area. Whether they survive or not we`ll have to wait and see. A taste of thin...

Freshwinds Garden: April 2015
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 April 2015. Frisky Ferrets and Seed Scattering. My main job today was to scatter packets of seeds in various areas in the garden. In the end I held some back for May because they will need to go where the forgetmenots are. My brother James gave me a prize he won in a raffle. The new pocket system in the polytunnel is keeping things tidy. It`s made from recycled curtain fabric. In this area next to the onions I have put godetia, linum and candytuft. The sweetpeas are surviving. Hope everyone ...

Shoebill - Uganda June 2016. Saturday, 31 January 2015. Makalali Game Reserve - Week 2. Yet another great week on the game reserve. Some incredible animal encounters this week, thankfully from the vehicle this time. Bird activity has also been good as the temperature has been lower due to local thunderstorms etc. Probably the highlight was flushing a Small Buttonquail. From the roadside one morning. I will add the very long mammal list after the trip next week when I visit the Western Cape with my brother.
