lazy overachiever: Bhutan: retrospectively
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2014/04/bhutan-retrospectively.html
Just like it says. Monday, April 28, 2014. I had no desire to write anything when I was in Bhutan. Photography tours tend to do that - at least that was my experience with Patagonia as well. If you have a spare minute, which you rarely do, you want to edit more photos. What did I think of Bhutan? For photography it's a wonderful place as there is no shortage of dzongs (the monastery and temple combinations). And ornate doorways for monks to walk through. Beautiful doorway. Monk. One night I went to turn ...

lazy overachiever: February 2010
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Just like it says. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Papi te amo Areta dice todo el tiempo. First Question - Why do airplane bloody mary's. 57 pages of notes. Nearly 400 flashcards with over 40 of them having full verb conjugations. Learning a new language is so incredibly intense - willing your brain to comprehend. Straining to decipher. Taking far too long to compose a response before speaking. Repeating it to yourself over and over before it comes out. My teacher Rochael. The terrain reminded me a bit of ...

lazy overachiever: The Skies Opened
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-skies-opened.html
Just like it says. Saturday, September 01, 2012. I was already planning to do a post on this subject describing the storm that took us by surprise as we walked up a couple of miles to a hilltop monastery. That story has officially been usurped by the storm we had this morning which was by far the biggest electrical storm I have ever experienced. See the fourth flat hill? Go over that rise over there and look for the next Ger to ask? Thank you Gobi and bim ba! Location: Erdenedalai, Mongolia.

lazy overachiever: The Sanitorium - Part I
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-sanitorium-part-i.html
Just like it says. Tuesday, September 04, 2012. The Sanitorium - Part I. So we had hired a driver for about a week and that was to be the third and fourth nights of our journey. According to lonely planet "international travelers" could stay at the shargaljuut resort - yay! A little splurging and pampering. Is this the sanitorium with a resort inside? The inside was something to behold. Small mirror Mosaic tiles covering columns and a reception desk. Black marble perhaps. Really shabby chic f...That is s...

http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2014/04/hell.html
Just like it says. Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Frickin torture. That doesn't even scratch the surface of the feet we wet down. For the first number of hours all climbs had an equivalent down. It made me want to cry. The very start - looks innocent enough. Our first destination is the mountains in the upper right. The guy from the trekking company who provided me the guide and itinerary? The first village - maybe 15 minutes in. However, once I got my breathing pattern ironed out after only about four hours, ...

lazy overachiever: Day 10 - Discomforts & Awe Inspiring Beauty
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2014/05/day-10-discomforts-awe-inspiring-beauty.html
Just like it says. Thursday, May 01, 2014. Day 10 - Discomforts and Awe Inspiring Beauty. Ten days without the internet or any communication really. A couple of times there has been some texting ability but I only look at my phone when I am setting the alarm for 6am. Otherwise I keep it in airplane mode since you have to pay a decent amount to charge devices and I'd rather not - especially since sometimes there is no power at all like tonight. Is it REALLY fucking cold outside? Typically yes - with stone...

lazy overachiever: April 2014
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Just like it says. Tuesday, April 29, 2014. What a difference a day makes. Alternate title: one step at a time. There were times yesterday morning, the first day, that I thought I wouldn't make it. I couldn't imagine how my exhausted legs would carry me any further let alone up thousands of feet which are mostly steps. But after lunch it got progressively easier and today was great! The walking view for the day. A word on the accommodations: rustic. That probably makes them sound more glamorous than ...

lazy overachiever: The Retreat
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-retreat.html
Just like it says. Friday, May 09, 2014. Where to even begin? It's funny when you have expectations, but you have no idea what they are. You can't identify specifics or a way that you thought something was going to be or what it was going to look like. All you know it's that your ill defined nebulous expectations were not met. I did a yoga retreat in Pokhara, Nepal. It sounds exciting - no? What if I want to keep to myself? What if I think everyone is annoying? I walked into my room the first night, that...

lazy overachiever: Routine
http://cheeksmo.blogspot.com/2014/05/routine.html
Just like it says. Thursday, May 01, 2014. Wake up" at 6 when my alarm goes off, snooze until 6.10, quickly dress and pack up my bag. Breakfast at 6.30, on the trail by 7. Sometimes tea around 9, sometimes not. Lunch anywhere from 10.45 to noon - always Dal Bhat, which is rice, lentil soup, a curry and often a green. Arrive at destination between 1 and 4. Unpack the few items in my duffel bag, take out sleeping bag and fluff. Grab nook and read game of thrones and nap. In bed reading at 7:30.
